I actually know the feeling. Seeing Pokemon a weird color looked shitty, so I never bothered naming them.

Why did this even happen? I remember using a few mons in the mini-games that had odd coloring like my Furret.

At least in Stadium 1, it was nickname based. That's why all the random trainers had stupid nicknames like TENTACT1 and GOLDACT2
