See, I like finding patterns as much as the next guy, but ya shouldn't make a thread out of it. Speculation's fun and all, but ya usually don't really have anything more concrete other than a "maybe".

Gen 8 will remake gen 4 so all water starters will be birds in gen 8.

Also i saw this pattern in gen 6,7

Waifu (Delphox and Primarina)
Barashit (Chesnaught and incineroar)

So we are getting a grass waifu in gen 8 as a starter.

Take a look at all the Water starters. Every one of them is based on semi-aquatic animals ONLY.

The theory goes that, if a Water starter were based on a fully aquatic creature, it would be difficult to imagine them realistically existing on the land. Which means, the player might find it more difficult to connect with it on an emotional level.
That's why none of them are straight up fish, or or fish-like. It's also why Froakie isn't a tadpole, even though the transition from tadpole to frog would be a perfect display of he evolution mechanic, which would be great for a starter. It can't feasibly maneuver on land, so they're scared kids won't connect with it.

There are only so many semi-aquatic animals though. They will either have to break tradition eventually or get creative.
