This. They also have a habit of willfully misinterpereting things, using outlying/non-canonical information, "balancing" the fight in favor of one fighter over the others, and just being fuckin lazy. Not to mention a complete unwillingness to accept their mistakes/accept corrections, or even make a half-decent argument as to why certain things are the way they are.

The Android 18 vs Ms. Marvel fight is a good example of this, since they attributed a bunch of abilities to 18 that she doesn't canonically have, and only exist for her in the video games(with material canon to the series specifically stating she does not have those abilities.)

When people pointed out that they were giving 18 abilities she shouldn't have, they argued "but it's in the video games so it's ok." They could've shut it down by saying "We used composite versions of both characters taking information from both canonical and non canonical official sources." but instead fought that there was "No evidence that 18 can't absorb energy," despite people showing direct evidence to the contrary. "Superiority complex" is what I'd call it. People who are into a less popular series (Digimon in this case) dislike a more popular series (Pokemon) by the mere fact they're more popular. Accepting Pokemon to them is like accepting they made poor life choices by sticking to a lesser series.

I find it ironic, honestly. Sure /vp/ isn't the entire Pokemon fanbase, but it's a damn good example of being accepting of other series regardless of popularity.

I think it's because anytime Digimon is brought up, someone usually immediately responds with something Pokemon related. I'm sure after seeing it a million times you get so anal about it that you just start raging over the slight mention of it. I mean, the franchises both had a different feel from the start (1 is about catching various monsters, the other is raising a single bro and how you treat it changes what it ultimately becomes), but since both came to America around the same time, both are still compared to each other to this day.

I personally love both series and don't really give a shit, but it's a noticeable trend.

That's the key word though: Nearly. And also Champion Digimon have weird power scaling to begin with. They're either tied with/worse than Rookie Digimon (Sukamon, Numemon) or near Ultimate levels themselves in certain situations (Devimon in 01, Angemon against any kinds of dark digimon, etc.). Lucario strikes me as Gatomon tier(who was able to fight with the rest of the Digidestined Digimon just fine), but stronger; out of all the big monsters, he's not quite as huge as other mons, but he's still pretty high tier in Pokemon strength if anime canon and game canon together is to be factored.

On the other hand, Renamon fought champions herself but had to have Rika's help in order to fight them, and then eventually needed to evolve so she wouldn't be completely bodied. She's a high tier rookie for sure, but she's not high-tier Champion level.

Either way, there's too many factors here, and Death Battle is more of a time killer than an actual serious discussion of who would win most of the time.
