Almost 5 years ago, a bunch of anons on /vp/ set out to create something special.
What started out as an effort to create a brand new Pokédex soon evolved into a game dev project the likes of which had never been seen before.
Scores of anonymous posters, all working together on equal footing to cobble together an homage to the games that had shaped their lives so heavily.
As the months turned into years, new faces arrived and old faces faded away.
A bunch of amateurs, most of which with absolutely no experience, slowly started to assemble a monument to their love for a game about collecting monsters.

We have finally reached a great milestone: the completion of our Demo 2.0. The countless combined efforts of everyone, from simple survey voting anons to masterful artists, has let us accomplish this release.

I'm trying to download Sage, but apparently my anti-virus software (Norton 360) considers it a threat and removes it. It says that the file game.exe contains a threat called "WS.Reputation.1." At the same time, Norton 360 has a retarded habit of thinking that everything's a false positive, so I don't even know.

Has anybody else had this problem? If so, what did you do to work around it?

We describe this issue on the wiki page itself. Changing the icon removes the publisher's license that the file has and Sage isn't a verified publisher. So, certain antivirus programs may choose to scan it or in your case block it. The file is perfectly fine.

St. John's wort is used as an over-the-counter herbal supplement for the treatment of depression and Lintle seems to cheer people up.
Cinchonna is the tree that we get quinine (antimalarial) and quinidine from.
Garlic is another one because in high doses it displays blood thinning capabilities.
Black Cohosh has no relation to Lintle, I just was drawing a blank on other herbal supplements .

I'm using a male Lintle. It's a Silkinder right now and surprisingly useful for a pure bug. Hatching it and getting it caught up was pretty easy.

Also using Pomparunt female. It's a pompagoon right now and again, surprising useful. Then again after using Minarac and Fortifry anything doing damage seems useful.

I just had a super close and intense battle with Foster where I had to use some surprisingly out of the box thinking to avoid being swept by ice ball, only for me to win with my last mon, a level 11 Fortifry, because of based quick claw.
I was really panicked as to why Snome was outspeeding me, I knew it had prankster but it's ice ball outsped Foliat but not Cubzero which confused me. After the dramatic win he explained Snowy Terrain and I had that wonderful moment of "oh fuck I get it now!" that I haven't had in Pokemon for a long time.
Bravo friends, I can't wait to get to Stella and Cameron now.

This is supposed to be the SECOND gym leader? You know, those things that are supposed to slowly get harder and prep you for lategame/E4 where that kind of shit belongs? If she was gym leader 4 I might not complain so much but god damn. Foster's coverage was annoying, but managable. I almost stopped playing the fucking demo because of Stella. I love everything else about Sage but holy shit, tone it down on the early gyms a touch.

There's a difference between "difficult" and "overkill." Anvelid outsped my entire team somehow, despite being a tanky steel type, and Shield Bash 2 shot most things. Crawglock crit me more times that I can count on both hands over the course of 5 battles and almost always swept my entire team unless I could sleep-lock it. Pyroat was literally useless against 2/3 pokemon who could one shot with 4x weakess while it could half them at most. The spikes trick was cute but with everything else it's retarded. If this was gym 4, as I said, no complaints, the game is starting to get difficult. Smashing people's faces into the ground with shit like that gym 2 is bad design.

I had 3 pokemon that could hit for super effective damage and 2 status move users but still had this much difficulty with pokemon equal level to Stella's. It shouldn't get easier, it should start easier and get more difficult as you go.

I also believe in proper scaling. The ONLY way to deal with Spikes this early is to keep a Capig with Rapid Spin, something you're not going to know if you play blind, and will have to go back a considerable distance to obtain and then train up to proper level. Both gym leaders so far have been specifically equipped with moves to directly counter the starters. Shield Bash seems kind of broken since it turns defensive tanks into sweepers. I'm all for difficulty, but the game is so obviously stacked against you I would almost call it sadistic. Last time I felt like a game hated me this much I was playing Dark Souls. If I had some tools to help deal with these things it would be nice but as is you have to basically just bash your sub-par level-up sets against their competitive style play. It's not fun, it's tedious.

Found some glitches. First one might not be a glitch, but it definitely looks out of place. Second one is water ripples showing up under your feet when you run across the bridge to the Scrapyard.

Well, the game has been in development for five years but the first half or so was preliminary design stuff, particularly the pokédex, and just a lack of well set up design process. After we crossed those hurdles, the only real hold-up was the plot, because that sort of has to be done all at once in order to be coherent. The basic outline for the plot exists. The dialogues are usually written after the maps and events have been created.

To elaborate, there's not a full script with all the dialogue and detailed description of where people stand or what animations play, but every plot event is planned. We know the important points that the dialogue should cover and what exactly should be done that might need to be animated and where it goes in the region, just not the exact details of the presentation. So no individual words, no "this character starts the event on this tile then walks to this tile" and location may be as non-specific as "this city" or "this route". The final level of detail comes as we get to that part of the game and have the area and the specifics figured out more thoroughly and it's fresh in our minds. There's still the possibility for additional little fun events and things which aren't part of the main plot to be worked in, but we've completed the biggest and most contentious part, and that was the part which we needed to have complete in order to know which parts go where.

Too many puns from Stella.

Maybe I lucked out because Crawglock missed a Mirror Shot on my Llamarsh, and Anvelid didn't use Forge Press on my Rocano, but Stella wasn't that bad at all. I was underleveled slightly and really the only time I got worried was with Crawglock when it set up Focus Energy on its first turn.

The star of the show though was definitely Iguadium. Magnitogre had no response to Iguadium's Arm Thrusts and I was able to whittle down the Iron Giant's HP with that while forcing it to waste time on Recycling its Sitrus Berry.

I think people who will truly struggle with Stella are people who aren't using diverse teams. Crawglock would have killed my Iguadium but Alpint and Llamarsh were more than capable of handling Crawglock. Anvelid and spikes was an issue, and I smiled when it started to use Roar after using Spikes. Very crafty, though maybe consider Dragon Tail instead of Roar? Unless Anvelid is outspeeding its opponents it's not going to last long, especially if Rocano can 2-shot it with Flame Burst and I imagine Pyroat can hit harder.

All in all, Stella was an enjoyable battle and that gym theme is one of the best I've ever heard. I felt like I was in the middle of a forge and I hadn't seen a gym environment like that since Clair's remade gym in HGSS.

The aftermath.

Llamarsh was sturdy in battle here. Ate a bunch of spikes after Anvelid roared Rocano out and then took a Water Pulse from Crawglock. Had about 20HP left when Magnitogre killed it with Bulldoze. I didn't switch out much because of Spikes, but my next mon to go to would have been Leukoon since Magic Guard is a fucking beast. At that point I imagine I could have outstalled Magnitogre by spamming Night Shade or using Curse.

Got a script hanging error during a battle in Foster's gym & the game autosaved and restarted.
My Kidling fainted during the initial battle, and my Bluffin would have gotten enough experience to level up to level 11 and learn Swift.
After the restart, the game started the battle over from scratch *but* Kiddling remained knocked out, and Bluffin was already set to level 11 (despite not having actually gone through the EXP screen and or the new move menus), so he missed out on Swift.

Is there a way to roll back to a previous save or is it a minor inconvenience I'll just have to live with?

I was excited to face off against three grunts and instead the janitor from /sp/ swooped in, confused four characters and the player, stole our XP, and then after talking shit, spun away while displaying no talent whatsoever. Fonzi and the Greasers are doing better against a bunch of grunts and then this guy talks a bunch of smack and then leaves. I mean honestly, if the intention of that encounter was to introduce us to Pokeman, then color me wholly unimpressed and angry. He's a superhero, but he just fucking ran away after challenging a bunch of grunts to battle. Like, he said, "Stand back, I'm going to handle this." and then he spun around in circles and shouted, "Pokeman away!" and then ran off before actually dealing with the grunts. My impression of this guy is that he's going to be annoying to interact with and he will most likely kill steal us farther on in the future while being utterly worthless in the grand scheme of the plot.

It's disappointing because so far my impression of Team Aurum is that they are thieves. They tried robbing someones pokemon, they robbed a museum, and they're picking fights with others. I can see not all of them are the same, but that scene was very jarring to me. What's even more disappointing is that immediately afterwards, the battles are actually somewhat challenging. Fowattle scared the shit out of me. These guys seem somewhat competent in battle. That sends a message that they aren't to be messed with. But I can't rationalize that when I keep thinking back to what could only be something out of fanfiction in that initial encounter and how you lost the opportunity to hammer that home with the three grunts.

IF you're trying to make Pokeman seem more serious while also portraying him as retarded, then have the player get hammered by those three grunts. Have it be an unwinnable battle that you don't whiteout at. The grunts send out level 50 Turkistadors and Hyekuzas that just sweep your team. Pokeman jumps in before they mug you and beat you up, heals your pokemon, and then kicks their asses while you go forward.

You can keep the weebshit entrance if you want, you can make him be as dopey and fucking stupid as you want, but that scene clashes with the images you're trying to portray and its to the detriment of the project as a whole.

Bitching about Tempest aside, demo cleared! Wormwood turned out to be the Andante Gym's stealth MVP when flame body + flame burst from Glocto fucked over most of the rest of my team.

Looking at what the mans had, though, I'm fucking lucky the AI didn't screw me over; if Nurshary had tried to set up instead of HURRR DEPTH CHARGE, I probably would have gotten stalled out.

You can blame the quality of the scrapyard dialogue on the really poorly organized writing of the script by Leda (and the general bad writing on mungo). What happened was Mungo and Chao wrote pretty much the entirety of the museum (which was fine quality wise) and scrapyard without having much imput given or edits made. Before it was confirmed I rewrote the entire scrapyard post-Pokémon entrance because I, too, thought it was really bad. For some god forsaken reason instead of voting one script over the other the decision was made to Frankenstein in (most) of my grunt dialogue in with a revised version of Mungo/Chao's script and some stuff leda threw in. What resulted was a really jarringly spotty dialogue script whose tones and styles constantly change.

This is unforunately how most of the non-route dialogue is written and so you can expect similar situations in the future.

Like, there's really nothing in the Demo that makes the Aurum grunts out to be particularly capable or competent in anything but lifting, so I'm not sure why you think they should have level 50 Pokemon and unwinnable cutscene battle you just to make Pokeman look okay. I'd personally find that a lot more intolerable/jarring.

I thought they were competent because I didnt steamroll them while battling. They were good battles. It wasn't like team rocket with their endless raticates and zubats or the horde of poochyenas from gen3. The battles themselves are what hit that home for me.

Either way, having Pokeman more effectively provoke the grunts before fleeing or having him stay and fight wouldn't be amiss (and I came off a bit strongly too, mostly because I found the XP stealing complaints silly and that seemed to be your main issue).

I'm about to head to work, but this is my second day of attempting to troubleshoot this game. I'd really like to play- it looks like a lot of fun. However, no matter how many times I download or re-extract the game, whenever I open the game application, all I get is a blank black screen. It unfortunately does a whole lot of nothing. My antivirus isn't blocking it, so far as I can tell. I'm fair stumped at this point. I already deleted System 32, it didn't help.

Why is Cameron's gym on land, once you enter you turn to the left, further inland, but when you're in the actual gym you're underwater and there's like 4 tiers of depth? It would make a lot more sense thematically and logically if you did something like boated out to his gym which is in the ocean. If he's a researcher then that makes triple the sense, he can study pokemon in their natural habitat there and educate the public about it.

Doesn't even have to be too far out. You can even have a little dive spot around the gym.
