I know for sure every Pokémon name for Gen I was trademarked in America before the games came out. I find it difficult to believe they wouldn't do the same for every generation.

This most likely has something to do with either an update to the trademark or fixing something that was wrong in the original trademark. Maybe TCP legal found someone using Roselia in a shitty ripoff app and altered the trademark to cover similar names.

Most pokemon names are trademarked, it's just that some are already trademarked, so they can't trademark them at the time of their creation. TPC has trademark sharks waiting for the trademarks on remaining pokemon names to expire, so they can claim them. Roselia was apparently one of them.
Nothing new to see, move along.

I expect we'll start hearing about Gen 8 around next year when the new movie's coming out, sort of like Magearna, so we'll probably start seeing signs of that type of pokemon around now
Though these usually give zero clue about their respective regions
