This is exactly why you don't use VBA.
VBA is flawed in that it "saves" when you close the ROM, which is why if you have 64k flash saving when starting up the game, it asks you to actually delete the .sav file even though you've never saved before, because VBA autogenerates one when you close the game.

I really dislike the primary starters. Started a blind run and chose Arabomb cause it seemed the least shitty.

Got to route 6 and found Chezeta, dropped the fire starter in a heart beat.

Am currently after the 3. gym, from what I see there are more Pokemon in each route(Seen 144).
There is also wondertrade where you can get some rare stuff early if your lucky.
