I like a lot of designs in Gen V, but holy fuck I knew this was the beginning of the end.

Take your pick, really. Between the abominable starters, the gen 1 rehashes, the MLP quartet, and the literal recolors, and literal shit like Stunfisk and Druddigon, there's very little silver lining here.

By "abominable starters", I was referring to the Serperior and Samurott lines. Especially the latter. I also think Pignite is retarded, while Tepig is just okay, but Emboar is a reference to Zhu Bajie and that makes him alright by me.

I don't exactly think Emboar is a bad design. I thought it was just okay, but if they were referencing Zhu Bajie, that makes me give it some extra brownie points.

And it just seems logical. The Fire/Fighting starter in Gen 4 was based on Sun Wukong, Emboar came right after and according to Sugimori, the Emboar line was designed "in a Chinese style".
