why are ground and rock two different types?
same reason you posted that irrelevant image. Who the fuck knows.
They're two different things.
Why aren't you questioning flying/air, water/ice, fire/lava/magma?
Maybe because rocks and dirt aren't the same?
>>33087140
air, lava, and magma aren't types
>>33087119
Rock is minerals, crystals and boulders.
Ground is earth, sand, or, well, ground in general.
They're two different things, but even then there's a huge amount of ground/rock mons.
>>33087157
ground is just small rocks
>>33087119
I've been playing since gen 1 and this still bothers me a little. It bothered me when they made steel too. Then they pulled fairy out of fucking nowhere. If anything ground should be a sub type of rock along with steel and not actual types but moves that have those types.
>>33087265
You mean liek how Sound is a sub-type of normal?
>>33087119
Because rock is weak to ground
>>33087119
Because Ground encompasses things like dirt, sand, and more dirt while Rock encompasses boulders, gems, and other rock stuff.
It's really just what you walk on and what you don't walk on, which is why it called the GROUND type and why rock types are commonly paired with ground.
>>33087119
hmm, make ground and rock only one type... but now, is ground inmune or effective on flying types? Rock type is something we need.
>>33087119
Ground hits from below, rock hits from above.
Which is why Flying types are weak to Rock.
Why are Scratch and Tackle two different moves?
>>33087563
Leer and tail whip
>>33087563
Not all mons have claws.
>>33087580
Not all mons have tails.
Magma is hotter than fire so why isn't it a type?
>>33087594
>totodile has tail
>learns leer
>>33087640
Sure, both have the same effect but it makes more sense for totodile to learn leer compared to tail whip.
Just to elaborate, if you check both move's contest condition thing, leer is cool while tail whip is cute.
so for a i guess cool evo line like totodile line, it just make more sense for it to learn leer. Feraligatr tail wagging cutely is just funny to think about imo.
>Waggling your tail drops the opponents guard because they think you're cute.
>>33087157
>ground is earth
>the Pokémon literally based around the magma that forms the mantle of the earth is Fire/Rock
Really makes u think
>>33087119
There's a precedent for that, dark & shadow, bird & flying, wood & grass types, magic & fairy, radiation & nuclear types, it makes no sense
>>33087119
Combining the type and calling it "earth" or even keeping the name ground wouldn't fit pokemon like minior or corsola very well. And if you called it rock it would be weird calling palossand or wiscash "rock" types when there's nothing about their designs that implies rocks.
>>33088253
>>33088347
Stop this meme. That move's original name translates as "invitation" you aren't dropping the foe's attack just because they think it looks "cute"
Ground is a useful catch-all for the considerable number of Pokemon that originate in hot, arid desert climates. Rock isn't.
>>33088465
>original name
>drops attack
Stop pretending to know what you're talking about
>>33087600
Sabo lives on!
Rocks are made out of ground but it's also hard. Ground is more like fluid.
You hit Rock with Fighting attack - it's smashed. You hit Ground - it's still ground.
You hit Steel with Rock - Rock is smashed. You hit Steel with Ground - Steel falls apart
>>33088359
The Earth is a rock covered in ground
>>33088359
Groudon is Ground/Fire and Heatran is Steel/Fire
idiot
>>33088377
What the fuck do you even mean? Shadow-type is something from the Gamecube games that was its own bizarre thing different from Dark. Bird was just an alpha designation for what would become Flying-type. There are no Wood or Magic or Nuclear types or anything
