I think honest, constructive criticism is important, sure. And SM definitely had some flaws. But all of the threads I've seen on the topic are people bitching about the most minor and pointless details. It feels less like criticism and more like whining, just begging for attention.

Just got a copy of Leafgreen and Sapphire. I've played them before of course (especially Sapphire) but I'm looking forward to doing a mono-Poison playthrough on Leafgreen and conditioning a good Ninetales on Sapphire to get contest ribbons and move up through the generations. Oh, and I can change the battery in Sapphire so as to grow berries.

I also got an original DM Gameboy for free so I might pick up Gold, it was my first game and I haven't had anything that can play gb/gbc games in years.

TLDR: I'm looking forward to exploring the stuff outside of the main gym system (or the 'battle facilities') once I finish my SM living 'dex

Sun and moon's SOS battles provide a way to EV train, Shiny Hunt, obtain Hidden Abilities, and level grind at the same time. While it can lead to things one did not intend, this also helps streamline each respective process and make them more accessible and I appreciate it along with similar quality of life improvements in each game, because every game has at least one.

There are no bad pokemon games. I will take "flaws" that give each game their own identity over GameFreak not trying anything new. It may seem like pokemon doesn't change it up enough, but trust me, it can always get worse.

In fact, that's what I like to remember in light of so many common criticisms- it can ALWAYS get worse. Pokemon's made due for the 20+ years its been around and bringing in new design staff members as the generations pass will help keep things fresh. If nothing else, keep going for the little things about each game you may like, such as comedy in stuff like Hiker David in Sun and Moon or Mysterious stuff such as the constant allusion to relation between Cubone and Kangaskhan by their placement in the same areas, or stuff like learning to like a pokemon because it proved itself in a nuzlocke or even little things like getting invested in growing berries.

Not every opinion needs to be a broad, sweeping statement. You don't have to like everything about your friend or hate everything about your enemy.

I've recently went back to playing sun/moon after playing Style Savvy 3 for a few months, and I realized that my Moon team was my favorite team I used on a run through. So much so that I plan to use the same team for USUM, except with a vulpix.

I love Bellossom, not in a platonic way of course. I just adore its cheerful design. It lightens up my mood to see her in amie. I like it so much, it's pretty much the only Pokémon I've worked hard to get ribbons on, though they're Gen VI+. I'm looking forward for the Sinnoh remakes so I can get even more cute ribbons on my cheerful dancer. It sounds autistic, but that's how I feel

I absolutely adore the SOS system. Easy to understand, lots of benefits, and lots of different ways to go about it. Hell, over half the shinies I have now are via SOS.

Subjective.
Some people might legitimately enjoy the state of those details in previous games.
Downgrading anything in a later game is a bad idea in general.

I have a lot of criticisms for the games, but because of SM, I found appreciation in using Archeops something I never batted an eye to, not even in White, my first game. I found it extremely useful in the battle tree, blowing everything the fuck out, even though it can barely take a hit and is stuck with a crippling ability. I even thought about using it in an online team. It's a shame the flying gem doesn't exist in SM, but perhaps it's for the best.

I don't mean to negative but I didn't enjoy a damn thing about SM and I feel like this is a sore topic of discussion when its a very split thing.

On the upside I evolved an Emerald native Pikachu into an Alolan Raichu after a decade or so of bouncing it around. Has one of every ribbon.
(The game flags this as illegal which also pisses me off, but I hope this counts)

Not to shit up the thread but there are other problems.

My favorite new pokemon is Alolan Ninetales and I really like the full 3D in recent games. 3D is honestly what has brought me back to pokemon after not playing for years. I hope they cater to their more adult players in post games with a deeper epilogue.
