I think I know why most people dislike his designs, they really are way to western for Pokemon. The ones you could see still being designed by japs would be the Golurk line and maybe Phantump, but you see the western influence in the others quite clearly. That's why some think that they don't feel like Pokemon.

Fucking pleb. Gen 5 went outside the box for the first game and had one of the better stories in the sequels. And the new Pokémon introduced payed off well, especially ones like golurk and reuniclus. Granted there are flaws, but it ended up more complete then gen 7

STAB Freeze Dry for a stronger, makeshift BoltBeam that for some reason STILL catches people off guard and OHKOs Water/Ground, Water/Flying, and Water/Grass types, as well as the more frail Water types in general.
Functions hilariously well in the Rain and Sun with Weather Ball, messing up the Fire or Rock types (in Rain) or the Steel types (in Sun) that switch in to try and ruin its day.
Learns some other pretty handy moves, regardless of its seemingly shallow movepool.
