Defeating Red in Sun and Moon is NOT canon because in these games he moves his mouth but we can't read his dialogue. It's evidence that he's being "controlled" by a player ( we can't read the dialogue of any MC), therefore he is the MC, therefore he can't lose.
By the way, maybe this is valid for HGSS and BW2 too, but we don't have evidence (we can't see his mouth moving). Maybe the "..." actually resembles his silence in HGSS and BW2.

I also think Hilbert is one, if not the most powerful trainer. In BW2 they refer to him in certain points of the game, even N acknowledges him as a powerful trainer. From that dimension (I believe XY/ORAS/SM occur in a different universe) he's the strongest to me.

It was never said that Red is the most powerful trainer. /vp/ is stupid when it comes to Pokemon, but denying events that happened in both GSC and HGSS is silly. In SM, Green states that he and Red were once champions in their hayday. Such a statement blatantly and clearly implies that he and Red are no longer champions as of SM.

Even if we accept /vp/'s stupid theory about the Kanto quest in GSC and HGSS being non canon, Red would have lost his title to the current champion of Kanto regardless. For all we know, there could have been two or three champions after Red. If we return to Kanto, Red's not going to be the champion.

I think is because in the games N gives up his ideals, his old ideals, when Ghetsis comes out as the evil force of the game. N trusts in others to solve what he caused when he had those wrong ideas about both people and pokemon. Hilbert having Zekrom shows the trust that N placed in others about building a better world.
