So every so often there's a thread about what animals haven't been made into Pokemon yet. This thread will be for NON-ANIMAL concepts. Mythological creatures are welcome, but the weirder the better. Dumping to start.

Chess: Starts off as a Pawn(Rock) and can evolve into many forms.

Rook:Mixed attack and Defence
Knight:High speed, plus added Fighting type.
Bishop:No stat changes, but focus on support moves.
Queen: High Attack and Special Attack.

And then maybe a "side quest" for a separate but related "king" piece where you need all the other forms to unlock it....and then it ends up being a piece of crap and only learns like Tackle, or something.
>>
Sequoias would be neat. They could incorporate the idea of mythological giants with them. (Grass/Fairy?)
>>
Manchineels would be an awesome idea for a Grass/Poison legendary. Why a legendary? Because EVERY PART OF THE PLANT IS POISONOUS. The fruit is poisonous, the leaves are poisonous and even the sap is poisonous. You don't even need to eat parts of it to be affected. Simply standing under it during a rainstorm will cause the sap to run off and blister your skin.
>>
A mirror Pokemon based on Bloody Mary would make an awesome Ghost type.
>>
Kyorinrin are book yokai. Maybe a Ghost/Fairy type?(Because of ghost stories and fairy tales?)

Speaking of Ghost type, since we already have a living sword, I'd like to see them tackle living armor next. You know, kinda like FMA's Alphonse Elric. Definitely would be Ghost/Steel.

No, the translators are idiots who failed to realise that Japanese words can have more than one meaning. Hermit crab in Japanese is 宿借り, which literally means borrowing a house. It's like how they completely missed the pun with Azurill's species name and apparently also the fact that it doesn't have any polka dots, or the infamous translation of Blastoise's species as Shellfish.

If you find those word concepts confusing, you're going to lose it when you get a load of words like "kami." Japanese is a highly context based language.
