PBR works just fine. Platinum and SoulSilver are classified as Diamond, and HeartGold is considered Pearl.

It works, but some new features are left out of PBR. New Pokemon forms will revert back to DP compatible ones (like Giratina, Shaymin and Rotom). I don't know what it does to Spiky Eared Pichu, but I'd assume it either gets displayed as a normal Pichu or it becomes a Bad Egg, with all your other mons being fine.>>33069508

For a mechanic they gave the game an encyclopedic knowledge of where to get every Pokémon and they were too lazy to either add that information for the other games or just ignore that mechanic for the other games.
