That's what I thought. Like most other fighting types Medicham seems to be a humanoid meant to represent a human dicipline (in this case yoga) rather than a group of people. We have the Machop line as weightlifters, Hitmonchan as boxing, Hariyama as sumo, Throh and Sawk as Judo and Karate, and so on.
I wonder if the big lips are meant to make Medicham look feminine, as yoga isntructors are often portrayed as female in media and previously fighting types were either male looking or male only species.

Medicham is kind of both Meditation and belly dancing. That's probably why it wears Harem Pants and has big lips
