Someone's just informed me that Crabominable's claws feature convexities that would leave behind ape-like 'footprints' if pressed into snow. I can appreciate the doofus a little more now.
>>
>>33059468
Huh, yeah that's kinda interesting. Is this mentioned anywhere as serving a purpose?
>>
>>33059487
It's because it's a yeti
>>
>>33059487
More surface area to apply grip on snowy surfaces?

Also, its a cartoon monster
>>
With such goofy long arms, it'd be cool if that's how it walked.
>>
>>33059498
Yeah, I put together the whole snowshoe/he walks with his arms thing together right after I asked. Hm.
>>
>>33059468
Still can't figure out how to evolve this guy.
>>
>>33059512
Go to the elite 4 area and level him once.
>>
>>33059512
Level it up on Mount Lanakila.
But you could have just looked that up, you know.

- Snowshoes
- Yeti prints
- Boxing pads, going from young boxer to old trainer
>>
>>33059487
No but I like to imagine Alolans spent decades looking for a large humanoid creature the same way we always try to catch Bigfoot, only to later realize it was Crabominable all along.

Friendly reminder that its teeth resemble eyes, to scare others during snowstorms. This piece of art shows it off well with the palette.
>>
>>33059547
Is the bra for scaring them off, too?
>>
When this guy was first seen everyone dug deep into its design. There are an absolute mountain of design choices and intended meanings behind this guy's design, both from Crabrawler and Crabominable. It has an astounding number of inspirations that all work together perfectly. It's honestly one of the best examples of a Pokémon design with genuine and worthwhile complexity.

Does anyone have the screenshot compilation from when it was first shown?
>>
>>33059553
most definitely
>>
>>33059547
Shit, that's brilliant.
>>
>>33059547
If those were its actual eyes it'd look less goofy, but I suppose it'll have to do
>>
>>33059553
It's for making it look more like an ape.
>>
>>33059468
Except it doesn't walk on its claws and we have yet to see this put into practice so...

Plus the way the claws are shaped they couldn't even open up like crab claws. If anything, it looks like the bottom purple section opens up like a trash bin. How is that supposed to grip anything?

>>33059547
That's a headcanon. This also serves no purpose since it already has eyes that remain white whether they are open or closed - it doesn't need a faux pair to scare off others.

Admit it, Crabominable is an abomination, but not in the way the name suggests.
>>
>>33059468
Anyone who hates crabominable is pathetic. People who are like "it's stupid and ugly herp derp" probably got fucked up by it in TR>>33059468

Knowing GF, they will relegate the evolution spot in a postgame area in order to make space for a Kantomon.
>>
The only thing to hate about crabominable is the lackluster stats, I wish that both him and crabrawler had a higher base stats that just moved around upon evolving like scyther, with crabrawler as the strong one and crabominable as the defensive one (I know >defensive ice type, but it fits thematically as the old lost master/trainer), although it would be kinda shit for someone that wants to keep the crabrawler to accidentally level him up in the mountain.
>>
>>33059902
>The only thing to hate about crabominable is the lackluster stats
And the hideous design.
>>
>>33059902
Just press b during evolution or make it hold an everstone
>>
>>33059902
>lackluster stats
few fighting types have base attack stats over 130. Be thankful
>>
>>33059636
It does walk with its claws. You can even hear the claws bashing the ground in its battle cry.

and the shit design.

>can't belly drum
>can't ice shard
>can't mach punch
>can't sword dance
>can't crabhammer
>>
>>33060093
It learns Crabhammer though. Crabrawler does, and then you evolve it.

More than Mew can say for itself
>>
>>33059554
Just because design is "complex" and "meaningful" doesn't mean it isn't ugly as sin.
>>
>>33060456

lol
>>
>>33060471
There is a line between intentionally ugly design and atrocious horrendous piece of shit like Crabominable.

Good concept =/= good design. There are plenty of Pokémon with incredibly plain or even stupid concepts that end up looking great, just as there are plenty of Pokémon that have fantastic concepts that end up looking like crap. All of those cool little intricacies, influences and inspirations don't mean anything if the designer can't tie them all together in a visually appealing way.
I feel bad for Crabominable because I love it on concept alone but I hate the design, and I don't think it had to be that way. Poor thing deserved better.

I think it looks fine and I'm experimenting with some battle options in doubles like giving him Water Bubble or activating anger point with frost breath.

Wait.... YOU CAN DO THAT?

Do people use that in VGC? It's an immediate +6, how have I never heard of that?

I'm no competitive player but I love pairing it with a Dazzling Trick Room/Frost Breath Bruxish. If the opponent decides to focus on killing +6 Crabominable without anything to stop a Protect, then Bruxish is free to set up Trick Room and let Crabominable do its thing. Very unreliable but even more so satisfying. Don't try in an actual competitive format.
>>
>>33060921
I remember running into a guy using that kind of strategy in the Tiny Tourney, except he used a Primeape instead of a Crabominable. Thankfully, the Frost Breath missed, otherwise things may have gone very badly for me.
But that's the only time I've seen it used. I don't know if it's considered a viable strategy.

It lives on top of a fucking mountain. The claws aren't for breaking shells, they're for punching.
>>
>>33066785
I get where you're coming from, but there's no indication on this image that the Crabominable is strategically placing his palms in the snow to mimic a path of bipedal footprints.

Given the pose, it just looks like he's in an attacking position, and the marks left around him were from previous strikes.

I'll admit defeat when I see it in action. Maybe they'll nod to this supposed trait in the anime.
>>
>>33067486
not the anon you're responding to, but could it be a territorial thing? Some bears and big cats strip bark from trees, maybe crabominable leaves claw prints.
>>
>>33067499
That's still a "maybe"!
Once I see it canonically portrayed or nodded to, then I'll accept it. Until then, it's just a headcanon.
>>33067400
Despite how they're used, a crab claw should be able to grip and pick up objects.
>>
>>33067486
no one is suggesting it's "strategically" doing it. when you leave footprints in the snow do you do it strategically? it's simply just how it chooses to walk at times.

instead of calling it a headcanon and being this unbelievably autistic about it,maybe you should provide reasoning to why game freak have a pokemon based on a yeti with footprints on its hands, pushing said imprints into the snow just like the yet it's based on.

This hurts me the most

An ice/fighting yeti mountain crab with a well thought out concept and a shounen anime storyline built into it is everything I would want into a pokemon, but it just looks so stupid.

It's not even ugly, just retarded looking. They have all the pieces of a great design there, but they're stuck together with staples and old duct tape. They were inches from a great design and they just swerved head on into a gas station.

not even anon but what purpose would putting prints in the snow have if they dont look like a walking pattern? some animals create fake trails that lead nowhere to fool predators, would those animals just place footprints randomly wherever for the fuck of it? no, don't be retarded. it has to be believable or else the ruse doesnt work. and in crabominable's sake, then it wouldnt be able to scare off others.
>it's simply just how it chooses to walk at times
says who??? i never saw this shit. you're both being autistic, but you're on a whole new level

what the fuck are you even talking about. how are you not understanding that the reason for the footprints is just game freak referencing the famous yeti footprints. they clearly just wanted to add a way for it to do footprints into the design, they obviously don't give two shits about whether it uses them to fool predators or set them to make a ruse because it's not mentioned in its behaviour, it's just a neat little extra, a pop culture reference. and you have the gall to say i'm being autistic when you're here getting worked up because you require a massive backstory for a tiny little reference.

>says who? i never saw this shit.

it's literally doing it in TWO official artworks. keep up thicko.
