It's a 2/31 chance to get a 6IV or a 5IV with a 30. OP is likely using lackluster Pokémon, though. It's kinda hard to find good 6IV mons to use, especially when you're breeding non-OU Pokémon.

Honestly, though, cheating is not as fun. I had a Powersave back in ORAS and didn't use it. Breeding is just fun to me. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with injecting, though.

I've bred plenty of non-OU Pokémon after I ran out of OU ones to breed.

Once you have a good enough base, it's easy. For example, just used my 5 IV Adamant Donphan and 5 IV Sand Rush Sandslash I bred in ORAS to breed a 5 IV Adamant Slush Rush Alolan Sandslash. Literally the first egg was perfect. But I bred a batch of five all the same.

but if you have a 6IV pokemon, say, with destiny knot, which I don't know why you wouldn't use, doesn't that mean 5 IVs are guaranteed? been a while since I bothered with breeding competitive mons so I can't quite remember how it all works out.
