In the true history Ash traveled with Brock and Misty.
The past and the space/time framework it laid out aren't supposed to change. Aberrations like these two are bending it farther and farther away from its proper shape. Eventually it will snap, causing the world to collapse and be absorbed into Ultra Space.
To prevent this these two must be erased.

Not really. Autistic nostalgiafagging aside, I don't see any reason to be excited about characters they created pretty much solely so they could market how their movie has some Japanese celebrities in it.

I mean, it's really the problem with the Pokemon movies in general. They need to market whatever the upcoming game is (if applicable), they need to market their yearly mythical, they need to market a number of continuously popular Pokemon (Lucario et al), they need to market their big name movie stars. It's never about just making a good movie and letting the toy/game sales be a result of the movie being good.

I don't think they will actually replace Misty and Brock in the movie itself, looks like Ash will travel solo in the parts based on the episodes, and when it gets to the new story involving Ho-oh that's when he meets them. Maybe they are supposed to give exposition about Ho-oh and guide him to where it lives.
