There is a bruxish gyotaku painting in their house, so I'm leaning towards Japanese. It's popular relatively speaking in some places in Hawaii due to all the fishing and Japanese influence there. Some regions' Pokemon were domesticated from other regions. Starters aren't always native to the same region, they are just registered as such due to Pokemon League regulations.

Tepig and Chimchar actually originate from the same region, Komala were brought over to Alola but they're not native to it and Girafirig were said to be brought over from a faraway region to Johto as a peace offering.
