It just means that it never sleeps when it's not near magma.

Riddle solved.
>>
>>33011629
It's not a riddle. Just a contradiction.
>>
>>33011642
Not really, the second entry stated that it can't sleep because if it stopped moving it's body would cool.

The first entry fixes that problem because when it rests near magma its body is kept hot enough to prevent cooling.

It's not incapable of sleeping, it just needs to keep its body hot.
>>
>>33011665
The first entry states that it sleeps sometimes. The second entry states that it never sleeps. Thats a contradiction. What are you trying to say.
>>
>>33011606
>>33011629
>never sleeps when it's not near magma
>can learn Rest
???
>>
>>33011606
I don't fucking get it
Why? Why do they do shit like this? Is it some sort of inside joke or something? Is it a mistranslation?

What's the point of the Pokedex even existing if everything in it is bullshit?
>>
>>33011681

>LeafGrean
>No volcanoes
>Professor Oak writes dex entry "It never sleeps" because he does not ever witness it sleep

>Emerald
>Volcanoes
>Professor notices that it sleeps but only near volcanoes

Science is ever changing. New discoveries made everyday.
>>
>>33011749
The pokedex writes itself.

>>
>>33012421
>IT IS SAID
If the pokédex is ostensibly discovering these "facts" for the first time, how does it know about human cultural beliefs that have nothing to do with the biology of the pokémon you just caught and might not even be true?
>>
>>33011749
brilliant, holmes
>>
>>33012421
But isn't there a distinction between "every time a new volcano appears" and "a volcano erupts?" An existing volcano erupting wouldn't cause the birth of an Entei. Honestly, the bigger problem with this is Entei reproducing at all given its origins of being resurrected from the dead by Ho-Oh and being incapable of breeding.
>>
>>33012575
>This pokemon is thought to have been born in the eruption of a volcano
>>
>>33011749
>LeafGrean
>No volcanoes
Then where do you catch Moltres?
>>
>>33012671
It's a vague statement. It says nothing about whether the volcano that erupted was new like the first entry in the image. Therefore, both the eruption that birthed Entei being a new volcano's appearance and an existing volcano's eruption are both equally possible, i.e. the volcano eruption mentioned in entry 3 could make sense if it was the appearance of a new volcano.

Still seems like disregarding already established lore is a bigger problem than questionable statements.

When you think about it, regardless whether it's a contradiction or merely discovering a new fact, this pretty much shows that the dex can't be taken without a grain of salt.
>Contradiction
I don't need to explain this one.
>Discovering new facts
That would mean that the dex itself can be inaccurate, and therefore need a new update on its entry every now and then. Unlike some people who believes it is an all-knowing factual device that writes itself.
>>
Im surprised people are just now catching on that the pokedex is bullshit. I knew this since I was a kid.

It consistently gets shit wrong. All the time. Heights are never consistently protrayed, even in game and even IN DEX. The fucking ORAS height dex was wrong within itself, let alone all the other ones combined. Weights are literally impossible at times, sometimes being lighter than any known element. 3 Magnemite together to Magneton doesnt equal that weight. Same with Wishiwashi, or Dugtrio, or most of the damn dex.
>>
>>33012736
>ORAS height dex was wrong within itself
What do you mean?
>>
>>33011619
watterson GTFO
>>
>>33012736
Counterargument: Most people here already know that. There is however one retarded autist who believes the dex to be perfectly accurate.
>>
>>33012715

Victory road... A mountain passage. To be fair Cinnabar Island has a volcano that erupted but you weren't allowed to access that volcano in the games so its an invalid argument.
>>
>>33012821
>Victory road
>LeafGreen
Nice try, faggot. Moltres isn't there.
>>
>>33012715
A dormant volcano with no magma in it
>>
>>33012758
In the ORAS dex, there's an option to view the models in height comparison. Even Pokemon of the same height and same body structure (and therefore, measurement type.. ie; from tail to head, from foot to shoulder, from foot to head, etc..) there are SEVERAL that are straight up different. It happens with such frequency, that it's impossible to explain the differences away.

>>33012806
Very possible. Its really hard to tell on /vp/ whether people are baiting or actually serious.
>>
>>33012853
I never used that function so I didn't know. Do you know which are the most egregious examples?
>>
>>33012880
I dont remember examples off hand, but looking through it, immediately Charizard and it's megas (which all should be the same height) are different. Charizard X has a shorter tail than base Zard, so that might lead you to believe it's measured from foot to head.. but then Megazard Y's legs are longer by a large margin. It's visibly bigger, even despite the very slightly shorter neck. All 3 of those together are incompatible. Not the most standout example, but just one of many.

It's much easier to see when you sort them by rising height instead of dex number, but I can't find any vids on that.
>>
>>33012827

Well fucking excuse me for being such an oldfag I remember the original games more then the remakes.
>>

reminder that the player character writes the pokedex writing what the pokemon do or is said to do
red never saw a slugma near a volcano so it never slep
brendan saw slugma near a volcano and it did sleep

actually that would mean the 11 year old protagonist of sm knows about reverse harem so i dont know

So if it's done manually in the games, how is the Pokedex written in the anime and other series?
>>
>>33015043
In the anime the Dex is already discovered, isn't it? Satoshi is just looking up information that's already there.
>>
>>33015584
I now imagine some creepy guy walking up to the protagonist and giving unsolicited TMI trivia about the Salazzle line just because the protagonist happened to have a Salandit.
>>
>>33014832
You also have to remember they're adventuring and presumably learning things from the people they meet.

Always gonna be a few autists who don't get boundaries and still other people who just don't care.

>>33015304
Yep. In the games you're told to fill it out, not look them up or unlock them.

So for the games it's basically the professors being lazy and taking all of the credit from the kids doing their research for them, staying behind to test all the bullshit the kids send in via the Dex.

Meanwhile, for the show it's a convenient way to fit in a bit of narration so every episode of Pokémon isn't ripped from the pages of NatGeo while Ash goes about doing the research himself (though I'm not sure that wouldn't be more worth watching than what the anime is now, lol).

Hell, maybe it's even the result of someone working on the show not understanding how the dex in the games actually works like the OP here.
>>
>>33015616
In the games it's said that the Pokedex "automatically" fills itself out.
>>
>>33014832
SM dex is almost certainly from the mind of Rotom.
