The boxarts more than likely are going to be literally the Steelbook pictures with the logo attached (though a surprise is definitely possible)

They're meant to be officially revealed with the first official bit of news or trailer (Or leaked tonight/tommorow with Corocoro) Since Gamefreak creates their own hype cycles for the games, with USUM, they're just starting later, following BW2s hype cycle of a short timeframe between news and release

The reason we got the steelbooks now is because it fits in the window of time between now and release to maximize preorders from Amazon,
Case in point, the Steelbooks for Sun and Moon themselves were announced at this exact same time last year, and since USUM are coming out at the same time, we can expect a similar cycle

Have you not been on VP that long? ORAS did 200 potions as a preorder bonus and I think another game had 100 Pokeballs. People made a pretty big deal about it when that happened.
Not only are these some of the worst preorder bonuses, but they're actually lowering the amount of items they're giving you.
