That is the best animated battle to come out of SM thus far, and it is still worse than the best animated battle to come out of XY. The whole "superior artstyle" thing that you fags keep bringing up doesn't do anything to benefit SM.

There is barely any movement from Ash, or other trainers, most of the time it's just a still of them standing with their mouths moving. Most of the reactions are the standard "this is good", "this is bad", or a memeface.

The battlefield is barely ever utilized in more dynamic ways, with that instance of Pikachu using the tree to give it more air probably being the only time it has ever happened. Hell for some reason we downgraded so now SM's battles and action scenes use speedlines.

I don't understand how anyone can unironically say this series is an improvement or the "best the anime has ever looked". It's a fucking travesty.

Honestly I'm too much of a nostalgiafag for '90s anime artstyles to agree, though XY did look pretty good compared to what we have now. Sacrificing 2D backgrounds in exchange for focusing more on character animation seemed like a good trade.
The watercolor artwork from the early games looked better than any era of the anime though.

I think this is a really stupid generalization, but I agree to some extent that otherwise boring plots can be saved by expressive, affective animation. Mob Psycho is a great example of this -- I mean, it has a sort of OK plot, but it's a very character-driven series, and if these characters were as static and expressionless as most anime models, folks like Reigan or Dimple wouldn't be nearly as endearing and as a result, the series' tone, action, and even plot would suffer greatly.

In any case, you're making a dumb concession here: not only do the new designs animate better, they also look better -- they're less rigid and angular and they allow for more evocative expressions and poses. The only reason people don't like the new style is some stupid, slavish devotion to otherwise fairly consistent character designs. They're spooked because the designs aren't familiar, and they've literally grown up with Pokémon sameface for 20 years.
