Do kids still play Pokemon?

Pokemon needs to keep building kids fanbase

Pokémon can't really have a series like Tri. The characters in the Digimon anime change each series with older characters rarely coming back. This isn't just a return from the old characters (we already got that fairly recently in Xros Wars/Fusion) but a new story focusing on them. Meanwhile Ash never went anywhere. Sure Misty and Brock left but a comeback for them wouldn't have the same effect, when they left they'd overstayed their welcome and become boring. They're better off as characters we occasionally check up on for an episode or two.

Besides the novelty of Tri wore off pretty quickly. I wish they'd gone with a regular series format instead of making them movies that also come out as episodes.

mostly in Japan but they do in other countries too. I see kids with 3DSes on the bus sometimes. Pokemon does appeal to it's older audience, there are a ton of references to other games in SM and XY that only longtime fans would get.

I work in elementary schools. They do not play the games, but they collect the cards and watch the show. Maybe in places where 9yos are actually literate they're playing the games, but not here.

I don't see much difference and the VC versions are compatible with newer games to boot.

Also, in Digimon's case is very hypocritical as the franchise strayed away from its origins. Pokemon not only had a better 20th anniversary, it had a better inbetween.
