TL:DR:
>Complete all Trainer Challenges (Cheat Engine's speedhack to speed up AI games) to get 45 free packs.
>Play through using Basic decks to unlock them for versus play.
>Farm Versus Mode theme ladder for Tokens and Tournament Tickets.
>Enter tournaments to get TRADABLE chests and packs.
>DON'T OPEN THEM.
>Trade them for the cards you actually want for a deck you want to build.
>Public trade is like the GTS, if you want proper results, put up your own offers.

What themedeck should I buy?
>Buy the Lunala one.

To see what your PTCGO stuff is worth, look on the forums in the trading section. Trading companies overprice cards, aim lower. Keep pack value in mind when trading.

TOTT: How much do you think Shining Celebi and Shining Lugia are going to cost now that we know there's a chance they might not be in Shining Legends?
>>
>>32983917
Lugia isn't that good though it's a popular card, Celebi is good but very few decks will want to run more than 2 of them.
>>
it'll probably be like shiny M Gengar EX where the gimmick will keep it around 20 each for a while but will plummet once the novelty fades. I don't see them being much more expensive than that.

Why did the mods/janitors delete the last thread?
>>32979413
>>
>>32984309
A lot of threads were purged
>>
>>32983917
Feels overhyped aside specific decks in my opinion.

Marshadow is going to be the pricy boy instead.
>>
>>32984309
it's funny because I got my thread pruned just for asking why the board keeps getting deleted.
>>
>>32984580
Marshadow isn't a good card in international standard, it's basically designed for Japanese standard where they still have toad/night march at least until 2018.
>>
>>32983917
Is the tutorial really worth this much effort? It's so boring senpai.
>>
>>32985329
free packs are worth it, you don't need to power through it all at once.
>>
Good cards to invest in to keep pack value for rotation? I was thinking Lele. Have 280 packs of GUR.
>>
>>32985346
This. Break it up with Versus ladder, you should be doing that anyways for daily challenges and free staple-ish cards.
>>
>>32985502
Lele and guardians packs probably the safest place to store value atm. I'd pick up Shaymins at rotation, I feel that card is going to just plummet in value more than it should, it's still good, just more easily punished.
>>
>>32983917
How rare are these things going to be? Full Art rarity or holo?
>>
>Shining Celebi and Shining Lugia
I don't follow the TCG very closely anymore, anyone have a translation for these 2
>>
>>32985740
Probably holo. I can't imagine cards such as this being as rare as full arts are.
>>
>>32985791
The original shining cards were 3 star rarity so to say these won't be higher in rarity isn't much of a stretch
>>
>>32985768
lugia's first attack does 120 if the enemy poke has an ability, second is discard 1 energy.

celebi's attack is worthless but its ability is shrine of memories.
>>
Why doesn't Pokemon use MTG mulligan rules?

Seems lame if your hand is absolute shit, but you have a basic Pokemon, so you HAVE to play it.
>>
>>32986639
Because only losers play MTG.
>>
>>32986639
What I want to know is why MtG doesn't have Pokemon mull rules (adjusted a little, of course).
>>
>>32986659
You don't need a creature in MTG. There's no requirement for what's on the field or what's in your hand. So if you have a shit hand, you can toss it and scry.

Pokemon you're forced to play. That seems dumb.

>>32986651
Fuck off.
>>
>>32986692
>Pokemon you're forced to play.
Because not having a pokemon on the field is a losing condition.
>>
>>32986692
I mean something more like mulling gives your opponent the option to draw. That way getting manascrewed twice doesn't mean an autoloss.
>>
>>32986748
Sure. But you should be allowed to keep mulliganing til you get a hand you like, or you're afraid to go again due to opponent's hand size.
>>
>>32986748
MTG:
>6 lands, 1 creature
"This is a bad hand, I'll mull"

Pokemon:
>Trubbish, 3 energy, 2 ultra ball, VS
"This is a bad hand, I can't mull and now I'm going to lose unless I top deck Sycamore"

>>32986750
Oh that'd be cool, but possibly broken in Modern.
>>
>>32986750
Your opponent already gets to draw if you mulligan.
>>
ToTT: Mew EX never made it past $30 even when it was splashed in Vepsiquen briefly, doubt either of these promos - should they remain exclusive to the $80 box - will be excessively pricey. It does however concern me that preorder prices for a jap copy of Shining Mew are around $100.
>>
>>32986814
Not a bad hand actually, just Ultra Ball for Lele for N.
>>
>>32986801
>keep mulliganing til you get a hand you like
That is literal cancer, anon. Playing off what you're given makes for a more varied gameplay.
>>
>>32986839
That's why MTG rules are better.

Your own hand gets smaller, but you get to check the top card of your deck and put it on the bottom if you want.
>>
>>32986814
any opening hand with an ultra ball isn't bad. a bad opening hand is one basic and a bunch of energy, tech supporters or recovery cards.
>>
>>32986850
I concede on the premise that that is your opinion. Personally, I enjoy the "luck of the draw" gameplay Pokemon has. It's one reason why I never got into MTG.
>>
>>32986814
Open Trubbish, ultra energy and VS for Drampa, ultra energy and energy for Lele, Wonder Tag Lillie, draw eight.
Not the worst opening.
>>
>>32986850
See, but ptcg has way more card draw and more tutoring than mtg. So fewer cards is less of a penalty, if you've got what you need.
>>
>>32986814
If you think that's a bad hand you haven't been playing for long.
>>
Just started my account, total noob but I'm having a lot of fun with this beginning electric/colorless deck actually

I'm probably becoming too dependent on setting up Raichu or Kangaskhan but whatever
>>
>>32987167
low-mid level play was always to most fun desu.
>>
>>32987167
While it's not a great deck, Crushing Current is probably my favorite of the starter decks they give you. Still way too bloated with pokemon like most of the decks, but tries to get away with it by using Sky Field.
>>
>>32987376
Yeah, I keep getting swamped with pokemon in my hand and no energies or trainer cards.

>>32987328
It's been smooth sailing until this Penelope bitch, I think the level it's at I literally can't beat her with this deck. I guess I have to try versus and get some more cards or something? IDEK
>>
>>32987411
You should have 3 decks. Beat her with one of the other two, skip her, then come back.
>>
>>32987411
If you're having trouble against the AI, just concede and rematch until you get a game where you get an amazing setup in the first few turns. Alternatively, use your coins to buy one or two of the newer theme decks and use them instead.

>>
>>32983917
Suppose I had access to any code from any theme deck. Which is the most powerful?
>>
Is there a way to use the coin deck boxes for constructed decks?
>>
>>32983917
Ready for the Australian price of the box to be $150 to $180 which is a solid fuck up the ass. Hopefully after the hype dies down, the individual promo prices will drop a bit but it's Pokemon, who knows.
Looking forward to collecting the set online where it wont cost me a liver though.
>>
>>32988676

The lunala one
>>
>>32983917
Excuse me if this is answered somewhere, but coins are only good for buying packs and theme decks in the PTCGO shop, right? Nothing else?
>>
>>32989580
You can use them to enter coin tournaments, which award tickets, then use those tickets to get tradable packs, but otherwise no. This is all in the OP, more people should read it.
>>
>>32983917
Holy shit, this Lunala deck is busted. Most of the time I just sut there and sweep with Lunala, Bewear, or Salazzle.

So with rotation coming up, how will we fill the space in the deck after VS Seeker and trainer's mail leaves?
>>
Poorfag here. can someone spare a breakpoint booster code?
>>
>>32990884
Mail is already dead due to garb. Even in this format there are decks that cut back on vs seeker for more supporters.

Replacement toolbox options post rotation are lele and skyla.
>>
>>32990884
>VS Seeker
Either 4 or 0 of each supporter, which fucks with supporters such as Olympia, Ranger, Brock's, Hex. The last one will also be rotated out so in general decks easily countered by these cards will benefit. Decks that need those will worsen.
There are already some players which do this just to fuck with garb.
>>
>>32990262
>8 GXs
I really want it to be 7 Ultra Beasts + Silvally, but I guess it's gonna be Guzzlord, Nihilego, Silvally, two Mewtwos and three Bewear.

>Guzzlord GX will have 350 HP but does no damage

Calling it
>>
>>32993033
Wailord-GX when?
>>
>>32993033
Please no
>>
>>32993033
It's probably going to be like Snorlax GX, high attack and retreat cost and probably the same amount of HP as well.
>>
>>32993033
Deals 50 damage and heals self for 30. Consecutive attacks increase damage dealt by 10 each time. Costs 3 energy.
>>
>>32993033
I really want all the Ultra Beast cards to have an ability that activates when they get a KO. Something like
>Pheremosa-GX can attack again if it gets a KO
>Guzzlord GX fully heals when it gets a KO
>Celesteela GX is immune to damage on your opponent's next turn when it gets a KO
>Kartana GX can choose which Pokémon your opponent switches in if it gets a KO
>Nihilego GX takes an extra prize card when you get a KO

Obviously they would have to be balanced by not having particularly overpowered attacks.
>>
>>32993346
Those actually seem pretty cool, except maybe pheremosa which would be broken in expanded because it can easily kill all your pokes at turn 2. Even if the attack itself has really low damage.
>>
>>32993346
That would be so broken.
Maybe something like Kukui, if they get a KO they do 20 more damage next turn.
>>
>>32993346
To balance something like that they'd need to be pretty shit one way or another, but the concept is neat.
>>
>>32993346
They have to do something special, and that is kind of the closest thing to beast boost, so eh yeah maybe.
>>
>>32993346

>>32986829
Yeah $100 is def a rip-off. No jap set card in this day and age is worth that much money unless it's an insane 1 in 3 boxes pull rate. But even so, Pokemon prints so much these days that the supply will certainly meet demand. You might as well just buy a few boxes.

Didn't know where else to ask so I'll ask here.
Regular Pokemon fan for about 15 years, played all the games and have casually collected cards over the years, with a random burst 2 years ago where I got hooked on getting cool new Mega Ex cards and what not.
My wife and I are thinking about getting back into the TCG to have some battles between us and maybe some of our close friends.

My question is: what would be a good standard deck build in terms of the # of Pokemon, energy, and trainer cards?
I have about 12 Ex cards and a couple Megas. The rest are regular with some special ability mons thrown in.

Is Choice Band always better than Fighting Fury Belt?

I'm using a Passimian deck right now, in which all of the attacking Pokémon are Basics, and there's one guy at my local league who has repeatedly told me I'm an idiot for using Fighting Fury Belt because Choice Band is just better

Given that, at my league, about 1/4-1/2 of players (including him) are using Trevenant/Garbodor decks, against which Choice Band does literally nothing, I figure I'm justified, but he's also a better player than I am.
>>
>>33001135
The best way of making a deck is always to pick 1-2 families of Pokémon as your attackers, then put supporting Pokémon in, a tonne of trainers and a few energy.
Competitive-level decks are usually about 15 Pokémon, 15 Energy and 30 trainer cards. That might seem really unbalanced, but the idea of trainer cards is that they let you get the exact other cards you want, when you want them. Once you have the ability to get your Pokémon out of your deck whenever you want, the only reason to have more Pokémon is to make sure you're not screwed if your attacking Pokémon is in your prize cards.

For consistency's sake, usually you will only have a couple of Pokémon families, and have a full playset of them. A lot of newer players will have ten different families of Pokémon in their deck, and spend the whole game with two Magikarps but no Gyarados in their hand, and at the same time having a Blastoise and Wartortle but no Squirtle in their hand. The fewer families you have, the lower the chance of that happening.
If you don't have enough of a family to use a full playset, at least of the basics, then just don't use that family. It might seem a shame, but it's just a bad idea if you're relying so much on luck.

TCG Online is a good place to get some basic ideas if you've never played before. You will start off with theme decks, though, which are a great demonstration of why decks with lots of families and few trainer cards are infuriating and luck-based.

FFB is better in a couple of scenarios. Specifically those that put you in a very good position for consistent one or two shot KOs where a CB wouldn't actually make a difference, while making sure you're just out of range of them.
If you've tried CB over FFB, and feel the FFB is more useful, it probably is.

You'll very likely run into countless Drampa/Garb decks, so don't expect to win consistently. It's not full RNG when it comes to shuffling, so learn to shuffle well. Don't do anything to enrage the autists when you play against them like having as messy bench or touching their cards without asking.

Keldeo was only good because of Deluge, which is a ridiculous ability, made even better by Archie's fishing out blastoise in one turn.

Raikou was only ever played as a rogue deck in expanded to counter Yveltal, because Eelektrik+Compressor is strong. In standard, even with a deluge ability, it's still too rogue to be played. Some people might splash it in Koko as a non EX attacker.

Flareon EX was never the centerpiece attacker of any deck and only saw play as a one of tech in Volcanion, and only briefly.

So the track record isn't necessary good for this card. Sure there's immediate synergy with Venusaur (a stage 2 line) and Lurantis GX+baby Lurantis (a stage 1 line) but without FoGP it's entirely too clunky. And even with FoGP it's still gonna have consistency issues.

>>
>>33007270
You mean before a game when it lists one player as having an Advantage?

That means that player has a significantly higher Elo ranking than their opponent. i.e, that player has a better win/loss record so they're more likely to win.

It's not smart enough to work out deck advantages, and no matter how much people whinge, the game doesn't intentionally decide to give one player bad luck.

Theme decks, sure, but with construction decks, the contents of a deck vary so much that they would have to write an AI to identify the "main" Pokémon of a deck so they could record matchup records between each deck archetype. Even then, it would end up confused if there are several ways of running a given deck.

Given that even the deck wizard can't work properly without suggesting I put Audino EX into literally every deck, having an algorithm to group decks together is far beyond the developers.

Are token bought packs ever tradable?
>>
>>33021754
>>33021741
>zoroark is $10
>night striker is $13 on amazon
Is the rest of that deck worth $3?
>>
>>33021798
Okay, BKT packs are 200.
Zoruark pack is 750, and contains 2 BKT packs, a zorua, holo zoruark, and sleeves.

Remove two nontradable BKT packs from both price and contents and we have >>33021728

So I think my math is sound here.
>>
>>33021863
If you're not using codes then 350 for 1-1 Zoroark is pretty good.
>>
>>33021850
The gengar is 1,50.
Dreamduck and speakerbat are a little less than a dollar.

Probably?
>>
>>33021892
If you do online too I think that puts it over the top, as each essentially contains 2-1 Zoroark online too.
>>
>>33021906
And the content of store bought decks are tradable. Yeah, do it.
>>
>>33021928
>And the content of store bought decks are tradable.
You mean decks gotten from codes, right? I'mma do it!
tomorrow when my check comes in
>>
>win 10 expanded matches
Nigga I've been playing for less than a month. Does it look like I have an expanded deck?
>>
>>33021946
Yea your standard deck can also used un expanded
>>
>>33021953
>standard deck
>in a month
Fuggit, I'm going in with theme.
>>
>>33021946
Just ignore it. I'm pretty sure the packs are only legal for Expanded anyways.
>>
>>33021946
everyone gets the same special challenge afaik

expanded isn't that hard to build for, a lot of the best standard decks are also good in expanded with minor modifications. Only problem is there's always some fucking nerd running Archeops lock which just annihilates most of the evolution decks that use cheap cards like garb/zoroark.
>>
>take a break for a month
>come back
>see Plasma Blast thing
>load up Decidueye
>flip 8 tails in a row on scoop up in my first two matches
>turn game off

How the fuck do any of you deal with this shit client?
>>
>>33022298
bbbut the rng is totally fair ur just suffering from gambler's fallacy

anyone who knows anything knows that the client's rng algorithm is weighted which is why none of the top paper players use it for practice
>>
>>33022320
Weighted towards what.
I can see coin flips because you always want heads, but how the hell does the client know how to fuck up your hands.
>>
>>33022320
>play that Drampa/Zoroark deck because I always liked Zoroark Break's idea
>brick every other game like I was playing theme

This client made me want to quit playing frequently. Playing the physical tcg with real people is way more fun and way more skill based and consistent.

U can get gameplay stuff too...
>>
I currently play a Greninja Break Deck.
Is that Deck still allowed in the next rotation?
Also what Sun & Moon stable cards should I run.
I'm already running Choice Band.
>>
>>33022989
Play a better deck
>>
>>33022989
Dive ball goes
Idk what can be in, I like alolan vulpix a lot, but I don't know if he fits well
>>
>>33000228
I like reshi/plume/bats
Good luck anon ;)
>>
>>33002029
/R9k/ is just a click away anon bye! :)
>>
>>33021661
Same here but with Primarina. Pull rates suck.
>>
>>33022327
Screw hands by clumping
>>
>>33022989
Breakthrough is the cutoff. Rough seas leaves, rest stays.
>>
>>33023670

Dive Ball is also gone.
>>
>>33023675
>>33023670
I don't think Greninja can survive those losses along with the rise of grass.
>>
eh, to think I have play only 20 winning matches to get 5 guardian packs but the gap is too big to even bother
