So how about that OC thread? Post the results of your autism filled youth. Some prompts

>What do they do?
>What's their ace, and why that Pokemon? How did they meet?
>What's the rest of their team, and what kind of group dynamic do they have?
>What's their goal?

And also your own setting if you have one you want to share.

Might run a RP for you fucks at some point if you guys are interested in my setting.

I'll just continue on with Starla for a while, maybe that one anon'll be able to show up too, to continue our small conversation:
Starla was originally made to be a volunteer trainer for a war between Kalos and Unova, which was the setting for a PTU campaign I was a part of. For now, that war is one of the many, many stories Starla claims she's a part of, despite her young age of 14. She's trying to fit in in this vast world, claiming her spastic nature as "normal" compared to everyone's peculiar.
Her ace Pokemon is her Litwick butler, Flamaria. He claims that he can create the finest teas, and the most grand murder, his name being given by Starla herself, and considers it a very blessed name. He's also able to combine himself with a candlestick that Starla found, making a toy hammer she could use for a bludgeoning weapon.

>Grew up on a farm, tried to be a ghost hunter, accidentally joined a gang, became a graffiti artist.
>Her ace is a Gengar she thinks of like her own child.
>A Mimikyu, a Pumpkaboo, and a Smeargle. She treats her Pokemon like her children, like a crazy cat lady.
>She wants a less shitty apartment- and maybe a place in an art expo.

Decided to give my guy a guitar to strum since he has a Primarina and all. And just so he has a hobby other than pokemoning. Is that a verb, pokemoning?

Anyways. He's not such a young buck, he's about 30 years old. He's already traveled a lot of different regions, won his share of badges. These days he just wonders about being chill, getting into random trouble he'd rather avoid, wishing people would leave him alone so he could go on being a lazy fuck.

His ace would be his Gardevoir. He stole her from an evil team that was making designer Pokemon to sell to rich people, or celebraties that wanted fancy Pokemon without any effort or being a real trainer.

Whole team is Gardevoir, Lucario, (mega) Lopunny, Delphox, Primarina, and Lycanroc Midnight. All female. Definite harem team. He's a superficial bastard that only likes using pokemon he thinks are pretty, but strong.

Their personalities are tied to their natures, modest, adamant, naughty, quiet, rash, and lonely.

Their goal is to just be free and live chill. But previously mentioned group is chasing them down because reasons so he constantly has to deal with their shit.

Excuse my shitty spritework.
This is Jake Redbud, the pokemon researcher who just can't catch a break...
His ace is a Hypno named Tapper, named for both the arcade game and the pun, they met when Jake's mother bought him it to help with nightmares. Since Lunar Wings are more than likely really expensive as hell...
The rest of his team is an Infernape named Flame, a Toxicroak named Dart, Galvantula named Webster, Chesire the Gengar, and Hyde the Hydreigon. They're just a bunch of goofballs trying to survive in the pokemon world.
Jake just wants to be the pokemon professor of the Sinnoh region.

To answer about Arthur

Typical trainer, but a bit more serious about it. Wants to follow in the footsteps of the Old Pilgrims and discover himself, trying to wear the skin of every type of the 17 trials of my PTU setting. He's pretty dedicated because he's troubled by how he has no idea what he wants to be despite being a decent battler, unlike his friend/crush who's quickly moving up as a Ranger.

His hometown is on an island, and so he grew up as a frog in a well, wondering what the outside world was like. He met his Froakie also staring out at the sea and lands beyond and they mutually bonded over their dreams and insecurities. His Frogadier, having Protean, is also pretty troubled about its own identity. Named Floyd.

Rest of his team so far is a Togetic who spurs him to do more selfish things, a Deino who tries to make him more upstanding, a Honedge he feeds with his own spirit (he knows how to heal himself, it's tradition among some cultures to feed their Pokemon like this), an Exeggute that tries to help him relax, and a loyal Growlithe as a cute doggo to make him feel loved.

>>32984200

I need to draw the trainers more, lately I've just been churning out pokemon pics.
Maybe I should put those out instead. Pokemon OCs still count.
>>
>>32984421
She learned her own way of fighting over time, as back in the PTU campaign, there were league and normal battles, and the latter involves Pokemon being able to fight humans, so... Why can't the humans deal with Pokemon their own way, right?
In Starla's case, Flamaria is rarely away from Starla from too long, but he would offer up his own body if it means he can protect his trainer even better from danger, hence the fact that Flamaria's eventual ability to fuse with a candlestick.
From what I've seen from RP groups, "talking with Pokemon" is often similar to a pet owner trying to talk to their animal, you're not going to get a full conversation. Starla has the ability to communicate and get possessed by spirits, but it's specifically ghosts - She isn't going to be able to know of what goes on in her Bruxish's mind any time soon!
>>
>>32984562
I know you got shit for it, but I just want to say I love how you draw your gal. She's got so much personality, I'm super intrigued by her.

The way you've drawn that donphan is great too. I think i missed out on a lot of her story bar she's a doggo trainer, could you tell us more about her personality?

would she be game for a friend in the form of a grass gym leader, or you know, even a friendly rival

Again, this is Volkov. He's a Russian gun nut who's also a mechanic. Got his interests and skills from his father who was a very experienced tank mechanic in the military.

He was given a Beldum (already named Goran by his father) at the age of 7 as a birthday gift. Unbeknownst to Volkov, Goran actually came from a batch of selectively bred Pokemon to be used as weapons of war for their home region. It had perfect genetics (IVs). Fortunately, after it received its initial battle training as a Beldum, Goran ended up in the hands of Volkov's father as a surplus benefit gift. This was due to a registry error on their homeland's military's part mistaking the Pokemon as a surplus item.

Right now, Volkov has Goran, a young Dratini named Ivan, an alcoholic Spheal named Kakadu, and Igor the giant Krabby.

Volkov has always wanted to follow his father's footsteps, though the urge for battling Pokemon distracts him from it. When he's not working, he practices his craft and maintenance skills and generally just chills out with some pals.

>Crash travels around, living his life camping outside, seeing the sights, battling anyone he sees, basic stuff.
>Whimsicott, and because it's the first Pokemon he's met. His best friend. He met Gale Storm when he was little, he was stuck and injured after a recent rainstorm and Crash freed him up.
>Larvesta named Blazette, Pelipper named, Vespiquen named Honey Buns, Mawile named Paladia. His Pokemon are his partners, his friends, he keeps them in tip-top shape, he exercises with them.

Gale Storm: Often pranks his teammates, flirts with the females a bit, even if it gets him burned. Sometimes literally. He loves and support everyone though, and will cheer on his team in the field of battle, whether he's battling with them or not.

Blazette: Everyone finds her a pure girl and, with how nice she is to everyone, no one messes with her. Neutrality to praise, sometimes boosting her confidence.

Honey Buns: Will not take your shit. Will not take your Pokemon's shit. Will not take Gale Storm's shit especially. When mad, has a malicious pressure to her that can unnerve anyone on the team. Specifically the one that incurred her wrath. The only exception to this is Crash himself.

Fisher: The mediator. The sleeper. The eater. All in one. He's the chill guy that can bring ease up any conversation. Helps cheer people and Pokemon up, will offer berries, and even let Pokemon like Paladia, Gale Storm, and Blazette ride in his beak, in the skies.

Paladia: Somewhat bratty and sassy, often uses her adorableness and Fake Tears to get what she wants from who she wants. While sometimes scared of Honey Buns, she outright hates Gale Storm sometimes, for being the closest with Crash, and will often smack him with her maw, tease/torment him, etc. Amazingly though, though all of that, she has a small crush on him, only does moderately well in hiding it.

>Tryna become the number one team ever.

Good stuff.

Mkay

Gardevoir is the modest one. Cam buys her ice creams. Her favorite is vanilla. Cam wants her to compete in beautify contests but she's too shy to.

Lucario is adamant. Never gives up, always super serious, but has a super girly side she tries to keep secret. Is that tsundere? I never could remember what that means.

Lopunny, the naughty one, is permanently stuck in her mega form, so she's super aggressive. Likes playing pranks on the others but always acts cute to get out of trouble.

Delphox is quiet. She's the "grown up" of the group. Sighs a lot. Reluctant to fight but lays waste to everything in her wake when she does.

Primarina is rash. Thrives for attention. Always does things bigger and louder than she actually needs to. Likes being the center of attention, even if it means putting herself in danger.

Lycanroc is the loner. Lays around and ignored Cam most of the time, but loves a good fight. Will be a good girl if it means getting food.

Again, Cam stole them from a group that was making Pokemon to sell for shows and shit, so they all started out in their final forms, but with nil combat experience. So training them started as a struggle, buy these days they're all tough as nails. But the old group that he stole them from recently reformed, and they're after him. He intentionally never competed in any league tournaments, inspite of having won a crap ton of badges, because he doesn't want to draw attention to himself.

I'm still trying to decide if firearms exist in my setting, but I also had a swordsman girl training with a Kirlia to-be Gallade. The player she's supposed to interact with hasn't played in a while unfortuantely, but eventually she's supposed to get some armor and go around like a vigilante beating the shit out of the evil team(s). Her sword would have been built to work off her/her Gallade's psychic power and also host a mega stone.

In Toplina's case, she's from a farm-based town and bumbled into her journey because of her pet Shinx, Toto. Where Toplina is lazy and would prefer to lay around and chow down on food, Toto is the reckless sort who LOVES battles, and his fondest memories are of the times he watched championship battles with his owner.
So on the day he ran from home and Toplina chased after them, that began their excursion out of Lacunosa Town, Unova, to beyond. Some of Toplina's partner Pokemon include a nomadic Tropius that rescued her from a rampaging Hydreigon, a Nidoran F that evolved into a Nidoqueen over time (Who's both sassier and lazier than her trainer), and even a shiny Lopunny who make act shy and demure, but secretly LOVES seeing her foes injured in gruesome ways.

Oh, and Toplina's really good at kicking, to the point where anything she kicks can bounce off of things. And somehow someway, she stumbles into finding people who cause immense amounts of trouble.

Its mainly because the group I'm in at the time was 90% lolis.
Story wise, there isn't a huge chunk to go off once you skip the military stuff to avoid the grimdark.
Short version of that. In the military, lost arm and eye in the explosion.
After some turmoil stuff and getting helped back onto her feet, she became super focused in returning that ten fold and helping other people out. So while she's a dog trainer she also trains people to. Less pokemon battle style more how to handle themselves if they don't have one around.
In the group i'm in now, she owns a bunch of gyms/self defence shops, work out gyms not pokemon ones.
All of her Dog pokemon are rescue dogs. She rarely catches anything in the wild unless it impresses her.
Also Dog variants because I like variants

>>
>>32984712
Ah yes, Mega Sword, the greatest of all the mega evolution inducing items. I don't have too many qualms with weapons, personally? Though the Pokemon franchise seems to keep things loose when it comes to weapon wielders. One of the antagonists of the Pokemon Adventures manga, as an example, is a dude in European knight armor, and I believe had a sword too? And when you think about it, Pokemon can be much more destructive than a man made weapon, such as how in the same manga, Maxie actually burns Steven's Poke Balls shut, rendering his Pokemon unable to be used.

It's strange to think about Adventures more darker moments, on retrospect.

I have weapons set up in the world, at a much rarer state.
Everywhere is going to have some weapons, even where they are banned.
I have them readily available, but people have pokemon so it's not used.
And children can't really handle a rifle.
So the occurrence of kids with batons or stun guns is more likely.
>>
>>32984791
I really like Pokemon Special/Adventures for how 'realistic' it is. I mean, of course the best move if you're fighting for your life/a villain would be to attack the other trainer directly or disarm them. Once the villain teams really come out in my campaign players will need to protect themselves in battle as well.

Man that's nice! I like the idea she's not fully dependant on pokemon as a buisness side of it, she does things for humans too. also cute about them all being rescues, do they have backstories and such for past trainers?

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a fan of grimdark in Pokemon. I mean, dark elements, but it's never just "sometimes Pokemon die" or "humans occasionally are dicks." No, when I've seen people going on about wanting darker Pokemon games, they have an invincible villain who kidnaps, brainwashes, and rapes someone's starter into a mindless killing machine while somehow having multiple legendaries that obey them mindlessly to "stay challenging."

Jake's been interested in pokemon his whole life, but the turning point came with Tapper.
Tapper's a Hypno, and the stereotype of Hypno is that they're child predators. Jake became a researcher to try and stop this from happening with other pokemon and get rid of these misconceptions.
Flame's rather protective of Jake, due to his tendency to get into situations easily avoided by common sense, but doesn't due to his curiosity.
Tapper's like Jake's brother, and commonly watches over the team at night, but just like his master... He's a bit of a dork.
Hyde is a big puppy dog in the body of a ravenous three headed dragon. Afraid of fairy types...
Webster is a genius, finding solutions to other problems, but usually can't get the point across due to being a spider with incomprehensible poke speak.
Dart's the brawn of the team, being the go to pokemon for smashing, crashing, and asskicking. Doesn't talk much and is prone to rage filled explosions... loves the rain.

I like the idea of exploring the Pokedex. I remember a long time ago, a person was writing short stories based off of the dex entries for Pokemon. That was pre Gen 5, so I wonder where that writer's gone now.
With Jake, I think it'd be interesting if he wrote his own Pokedex, or his surprise that the world is much, much different than a little device could tell him.

Good. More well-rounded and interesting, gives a form of interaction between him and his Pokemon. Just consider the logistics of carrying a guitar case around.

>His ace would be his Gardevoir. He stole her from an evil team that was making designer Pokemon to sell to rich people, or celebraties that wanted fancy Pokemon without any effort or being a real trainer.
Bad. Just a shitty hook. Selling Pokemon isn't evil, that's just capitalism. Hunting Pokemon for people without the means or ability to catch their own isn't a bad thing. What is it you think Breeders do, even.

>Whole team is Gardevoir, Lucario, (mega) Lopunny, Delphox, Primarina, and Lycanroc Midnight. All female. Definite harem team

>>32984421
I wouldn't define their personalities as how they influence their trainer. I understand that he's a wildly fluctuating character, but that wording makes them seem more like extended aspects of the human than their own entities. Like, how about instead something like "a serious, honor-bound Deino that values order above all else. While the Deino's no-nonsense attitude doesn't permit for much fun, Arthur benefits from the sense of structure."

>given a perfect IV Beldum as a starter.
That's pretty Gary Stu right there. It couldn't even be a breedject with near perfect IVs in a program that demanded perfection? That'd be a fair bit more palatable than perfect rare Pokemon placed on character's lap because. I'm also pretty sure that's not how guns work, unless part of the ship parts he salvaged was already a gun.

Thar's what Pokemon teams tend to be, and I can't keep track of 6*5 separate individual Pokemon. Not saying yours isn't a good idea, but I have to think of most of my PCs and their teams as whole units.
>>
>>32985544
I actually wondered about that concept, the idea that trainers could only have, at max, 6 Pokemon to be their "main" team.
Some of my trainers have caught over 6 Pokemon, though I try to give a decent personality and role for all of them. Examples include an Alolan Raticate that sells berries with a Florges as his assistant.

Here's a little something I quickly wrote out
>#097- Hypno
>Species: Hypnosis Pokemon / Type: Psychic / Egg Group: Human-Like
>AH: 5'03" / AW: 166.7 lbs
>Hypno are some of the most misunderstood Pokemon on this planet. Due to many horror films, old wive tales, and the media blowing this thing's hypnosis and dream eating tendencies out of proportion. Hypno are actually quite skittish of humans, only attacking when startled or desperate for food. In fact, only one confirmed instance of a Hypno kidnapping has occurred, and even then that one was starving to death . Anyway, Hypno tend to live in the deeper parts of the forests away from human involvement, feeding off of the dreams of slumbering pokemon, berries, mushrooms, and grubs. Their pendulums are made of anything shiny they can get their hands on, some hypno have been reported to have had pendulums made of old coins, scrap metal, and even lost pocket watches! They even make crude tools to fashion them into that iconic circle shape. They're usually solitary creatures, though a group does form every once in a while. They usually seek a mate during the months of May and June, and like most Human-like pokemon, they mate for life.

>>32985544
I disagree. Pokemon teams aren't a trainer and 6 of their personality traits. It's a trainer, and 6 Pokemon that are their own miniature characters which play off their trainer and the rest of the team. Two Pokemon spending time together without their trainer shouldn't just be sitting there waiting for the trainer to come back. They should interact, and do shit, and be people. Keep that shit in a word doc if you have trouble remembering.

>>32985565
Giving them all personalities and roles is important, that's good right there. Not enough people do it. Having more than 6 is fine in my opinion, but I can see an IC aversion to it. The feeling that you're not giving them enough attention. I think it's more than acceptable. Not like you're storing them in an actual computer, they're staying at some ranch, frolicking in a meadow.

Along with the Beldum, just because someone's given an incredibly rare pokemon doesn't mean they're a gary stu. Volkov has flaws and an actual character that doesn't amount to being the best thing ever. Also, you can make guns out of a car and scrap metal.

>>
>>32985674
Not at all. What you name your Pokemon or pets shows some insight into how you think. A person that names their cat Mittens is pretty unimaginative. Naming your fire type Flame is shitty, it's uncreative, it shows a lack of regard for the Pokemon as individuals, boiling down their identities to basic physical characteristics or associations. The Hydreigon is just called Hyde. That's like calling your Dalmation Dalm.

I didn't say Volk is a Gary Stu. I said being given a perfect IV Beldum is pretty Gary Stu. It's a characteristic a Gary Stu would have, a trait of Gary Stu-ism. It's a scale, not a switch. You can be a little Gary Stuish, a good bit Stuey, full blown Gary Stu, or not Gary Stu at all. And being gifted a perfect, ridiculously rare Pokemon as a starter because of chance is a good couple notches of Gary Stu. That's a bit of power-seeking, "I want to be/have the best" look-at-me simplicity. That's not all there is to Volk, and the fact that the rest of his Pokemon aren't like that is a good indicator. An alcoholic Spheal is interesting. It's funny. I'm looking forward to the day it's a vodka-downing Walrein singing drunken walrus songs. That doesn't make the Beldum not-distasteful, though. It's still a bad thing. Points have been deducted.

A lot of people give their trainers shiny Pokemon because they think it makes them cool or interesting, instead of making them cool and interesting on their own. It's a shortcut. Especially when there are better ways to make a character/Pokemon cool and interesting, like regional variants, actual personalities, backstories, or accessories.

Jake's not the creative type, plus most of those pokemon he got when he was a kid.

I actually like nicknaming schemes for trainers, though that's mostly due to the manga doing that for some of its characters.
Toplina names all her Pokemon after food, because she's a total glutton and pretty lazy when it comes to nicknames in general.
Starla ends all her names with -aria, a reference to her foster mother's name, Lady Maria.
Denji names all his Pokemon after thieves, such as Bonnie and Clyde.

I also personally don't have any real issue with shiny Pokémon, since they _are_ just a color palette. I may be on the minority on this point, but seeing people change their Pokemon's fur designs or body shape, reminds me that shiny Pokémon are a variant of their own. At the same time, shiny Pokémon are rare in every media of Pokemon, so...

Sam is a 20-something NEET who got sick of being poor and thought "hey, those trainer guys make a lot of money, right?"

Slowpoke. Sam decided to register as a trainer at his local Pokemon center and received a Slowpoke as his starter.
>What's the rest of their team, and what kind of group dynamic do they have?
Sam blew off the NPC who tried to teach him how to catch Pokemon, and thus, never learned how to catch Pokemon. Other than that, Sam is mostly frustrated with Slowpoke's apparent ineptitude, despite knowing next to nothing about Pokemon battles himself. They always barely scrape by through last-second strategy and dumb luck.

And you know what, that's a fair reason. They're childish names, and he can't very well change them after he's grown up. I get that. Though that has me thinking about average Pokemon life expectancy.

>>32985940
Very silly and fun. Implies a bubbly, childlike mentality. I have to wonder if the Scrafty would like that or not. You'd probably just call him Cap'n as a nickname regardless, though, because Captain Wonderpants takes too long to say in conversation/battle.

>>32985953
I like nicknaming themes, or schemes as you're calling them, a lot too. A lot of my characters use them. It's important that they make sense for the character to do and the name ought to still fit the Pokemon's identity or characteristics-- like a Jumpluff named Steak is dumb, but a Jumpluff named Popcorn is pretty cool-- but they're still good for establishing character themes and giving the team a sense of cohesion.

It's less a variant and more a rare pigment mutation, like albinoism. Different fur designs and patterns make sense for divergent species. The standard Eevee in Sinnoh, Hoenn, and Alola ought to look and act differently, to reflect their different environments. Nothing so drastic as to change their mechanics, no type or ability changes, but different appearances. A thicker pelt for colder regions, slimmer collars in warmer ones, larger or shorter ears. Shit like that.

Magikarp Jump is kind of boring and tedious, but I love that it introduced different patterns. Minor aesthetic variations for the sake of biodiversity. Some Magikarp have splotches, some have lines. That's just how it goes. It doesn't inflate them with artificial value, but it makes them more interesting and distinct all the same.
>>
>>32986180
Now that you bring up albinoism, I could see what you mean. I gotta say, you sound like you know your stuff, when it comes to expanding Pokemon lore.

>Confusion, Infestation, and Copycat. Being that at least half of these moves always hit very hard, she's shockingly powerful, despite her cute appearance.

here's my autistic edgy oc:
he's a dark type gym leader
He was orphaned at a young and was a homeless scavenger on the streets. He survived by finding whatever leftovers from restaurants and dumpsters. This was not enough for him though, so he started to steal food and became a menace to the local townsfolk. One day he came across a single isolated rattata and not far he saw the piercing eyes of a yungoose hiding in bushes preparing the lunge. He took pity on the rattata and charged at the yungoose with a stick, chasing it off. The rattata gives him a look and runs away. For a few weeks he couldn't help but feel like he was being watched, catching glimpses of glowing red eyes in the shade. One day he decided to sneak in the bakery and steal some bread, but this time he was caught by the local police. Out of nowhere a swarm of rattata came through causing mass chaos and overwhelmed the police. He escaped and was taken by the rattata to their den. From then on he was taken in by the rattata. Both he and they shared what little food they could scramble up. He became close friends with one of the rattata and they became partners. It was then that he discovered his talent in battling. He started participating in local tournaments and actually won some money. He got better and better with time and caught some more Pokemon and made more and more money from regional tournaments gaining the attention from the residents of the area, becoming a regional celebrity. He used all of the money he had won to establish a pokemon rescue in which he cared for the rattata pack and other abandoned pokemon. Later on, it was expanded and he was a certified gym leader. This does not take place in Alola just in another unnamed region that has alolan variants of rattata. His ace is an Alolan Raticate and his team is comprised of other assorted dark types. For those that call me autistic; yes,I agree and I am fully aware.

Oh shit thanks! I guess I should come up with some more story then, huh?

Well my trainer has a lot of attitude and spunk, she's not afraid to have Incineroar fight dirty to win a match. Outside of the ring she's made offers for special massages to keep Incineroar winning. When the matches are over she DJ's at the local nightclub.

Incineroar's your typical heel, will fight dirty but only when needed to. He's always ready to fight, and respects those that are stronger than him like Machamp. When he's desperate he'll spit in their eyes to blind them (Will-O-Wisp), or he'll bite them and suck their life away (Leech Life). He loves to trip up his opponents (Low Sweep), and finish them off with a fierce blow to their throat (Throat Chop). The crowd loves to hate him, and he takes it all in with a big smirk. And he calls out his next opponent with a cut throat gesture and dropping the mic.

Scrafty upkeeps the teams funds by making outside deals, theft and gambling. He'll blend in with the audience, and when the crowd is distracted he takes whatever he can get before slyly making his exit. Whatever he does get he pawns off, and gambles some of it on the Battle Royale matches.

Zoroark is their to manipulate matches in the teams favor, and will disguise as the opponent after he takes them out backstage. He'll pretend to take hits until the match is over.
should I continue?

Her name is Stella Ulbern, she's an old Contestant star from Hoenn. Her ace is an Ampharos, Lacy. She was given to Stella by her mother who was an ex-trainer herself and wanted to give her daughter a gift for her birthday (as a Mareep of course!)

Stella has a bunch of Pokemon, but as of late she's been spotted with her Spiritomb and Vaporeon. Their dynamic is much like a family.

Good design, fine concept. Could use some more fleshing out, but I'm also assuming you're not posting everything about her. If that's the extent of what you've got so far, that's okay, but you've got more work ahead of you. Personality, hobbies, likes and dislikes, stuff like that. Still, it's a good start.

He's pretty lame, but there you go.

He's a guy who's a failed actor/stage magician/performer. After failing to break into show business on his own, he decided to become a trainer and try to attract a following by battling. After all, people would pay attention to a Champion.

In battle, he focuses on a lot on making displays and wowing the crowds. Usually he'll use status moves to create illusions, or try to use combination moves to go for flash and style.

Personality-wise, he's a nice guy, but he's extremely petty and prone to jealousy. He won't take his jealousy out on anyone, but he'll just quietly stew in his own bitterness.

For hobbies, he likes readying/watching anything that's fiction. But he's the type to go on boards and judge people who don't "get" the work like he does.

He sounds like a smug cunt, but as I said, he's actually a cool guy. He generally likes to keep his feelings a secret, because he wants to present a good image. Being worshiped and adored is his goal, so he desperately tries to be as appealing as possible.

His starter is a Litten, which can juggle its Will-o-Wisps. He also owns a Munna, which can create a lot of dream smoke to help with disappearing acts.
>>
>>32987194
>>32988376
I wouldn't say being a scrappy orphan boy raised by rats in a rags-to-riches story is boring, quite. I think becoming a local celebrity for being a strong trainer is fucking dumb and masturbatory, and I feel like he'd be more interesting not as a Dark trainer but as a rodent trainer-- using each of the main regional early route rodents, maybe with some notion that he wants to prove they're strong enough.
>>
>>32988326
I mean hey first of all don't fuck a tiger. Let's just start there. Don't give tigers handjobs and don't fuck Pokemon. That's, that's the first issue.

There's a really weird disconnect between trainer and team, here. Like, the team is based around this scheme where they put on wrestling shows and steal from them. Everybody seems to have their role within the context of putting on a good show. Translating moves into dirty fighting tactics is pretty fun and clever, too. I like that. I like Will-o-Wisp being used to blind someone, that's a good unorthodox use of that. And Scrafty being like a conman, I mean it's weird that he's gambling and making deals with human people but stealing from the crowd makes sense and works

But then the trainer is this scrawny little scene girl that's into DJing and dancing and also captured an Ultra Beast? What? Why? Why is there nobody dedicated to helping her DJ, like a Loudred or a Chatot or something Electrical. Fuck if she's into glitch hop and techno a Porygon, probably Porygon Z, would be perfect. If she's a local DJ and isn't hopping from town to town, won't she be recognized and caught for her scam? How does she feed her Guzzlord? How does she make enough money to feed a bottomless pit? How did she get a Beast Ball in the first place?

The problem with OCs based off of in-game runs is that an OC can't be a protagonist, shouldn't be a protagonist, and should share as few qualities with a protagonist as possible. They shouldn't stand out too much, they shouldn't be exceptional in too many ways. They shouldn't be fuckin' Tobias. Shit, having a Zoroark is already pretty rare, a Guzzlord is ridiculous. It all feels disparate and weird. It lacks cohesion.

I like that Krookodile is holding her purse though.

>>32988458
A fucking plus for your well-rounded character with flaws and dreams.
>>
>>32988523
So to be completely honest, I made all that up on the spot with sort of an in-game team. To change out Guzzlord, it'd be Cacturne for sure.

I just had this thought of a WWE style story around Incineroar and a mainly Dark team.

As for the DJ'ing I had this idea that A-Muk would act as sort of a visualizer for the music, while Cacturne keeps the crowd dancing with Teeter Dance.

Krookodile would be Incineroar's Tag Team/Doubles partner for sure. While taunting his opponents in a angry rage (Taunt), he isn't a afraid to throw a little dirt in their face when the judge isn't looking (Sand-Attack). A little foul play here and there to soften them up for the big finish, but if all else fails he starts stomping the ring in rage (Earthquake), making for an exhausting fight for both teams.

And as with any WWE story, everything is kayfabe in the ring. As in, it's just an on-going storyline in the Battle Royaleverse. Outside, she is just a DJ.

I'm trying my best here, sorry.

I do have muuuuch more of a backstory for Stella! I just wasn't sure if it was ok to chitter too much about it?Honestly was a bit nervous!
Stella's hobbies consist of making jewelry out of the many stones you can get in the region - or that she has been rewarded with.
She loves everything to do with taking care and nursing Pokemon back to health, as well as Pokemon Husbandry! Beauty Contests were one of her favorite things to do back in Hoenn, which allowed the ability to sit with her Pokemon - specifically a Lilligant named Lillil (Yes the one the NPC gives you in one of the Pokemon games!) - and work with them closely to make beautiful displays.
Stella is currently taking care of a Farm for a friend who had to go back to Unova. She's kind of a helper. :');; Her friend is back now, and is ready to get back to business~

>>32988376
Stella's way of building business is word of mouth and how she cares for her friends Pokemon. It helps that the region we are in doesnt have a Daycare yet, so being the only one of its kind makes it easy for her to build such a business. She also is very experienced with eggs, and giving many trainers tips on how to deal with unruly baby Pokemon. She has designated 'mons to help carry out raising certain types.

A guy once built an AK out of a shovel once. I used his step by step procedures as reference. And about Goran, yeah I can admit that was a bit of a Gary Stu move. But, even though the Metagross did have those perfect attributes, it lost to a random Garbodor on the server I played on. Crafty guy. By the way, Goran as a Beldum was sent to Volkov's father by mistake. It was a damn registry error, meaning him and his dad have absolutely no idea about Goran's traits, therefore ignoring his potential and just using him in random barfights. Just sayin. Thanks for criticizing the whole thing though.

Thread got me to remember this guy I drew about 8 years ago, had to dig through a stack of old sketchbooks to find it.
I think I was trying to make a suave edge-wank character, who was all about electric/steel mons. I made up a fakemon for him that was a nuclear themed scizor ripoff, literal cancer.
If I can remember he was supposed to be a gym leader in a tech company setting like silph co.
that's about it.

It's me! I'm back. Prosthetic Grass Gym leader gal.

I've been thinking about making another oc. Electric type trainer, probably a lanky fuckboi because I can't help myself when it comes to cliches, part of me wants him to have a prosethic arm that opens up to store his pokeballs, not useful, but practical.

The question is when is self indulgence too self indulgent? I dried to doodle him but boy is it bad.
>>
>>32990754
Try to set a limit on how many gimmicks your guy has, I say. Think of it like; if you're character is something entirely new, it's better to have them be a vessel of that gimmick before adding another one to the pile.
Alternately, envision a mould in your mind of what you want your character to be, and fill it with as many deep sections as you can, rather than lots of shallow sections.
It's... pretty hard to explain, actually.

Don't apologize. It's okay to not be good. By being not good, you begin the process of being pretty good. And that's what we should all strive for.

Swapping out Cacturne is good. That's fewer Mary Sue points, right there. You want to minimize those. Cacturne is also just underutilized in general so it's nice to see him get used. Teeter Dancing a crowd for a rave seems ill-advised but if flailing around wildly in utter confusion is what the kids are into these days sure. Alolan Muk being a Windows Media Player screensaver is kind of interesting, but also feels like an underutilization. Actually, I'd kind of want to see each Pokemon having a role in and out of the ring, you know? But that would take a good bit of time to flesh out. Two of them can be bouncers and then the others, I'm not so sure about. Helping man the ticket booth or doling out drinks or some shit.

It's a shame Krookodile doesn't learn Stomping Tantrum, that would have fit perfectly. But that's fine, that set-up. Good to consider Doubles pair ups, I love doing that for characters.

So sure, it's a show. I get that, I know kayfabe. Ongoing storylines and shit. The thing is,
>Scrafty [...] blend in with the audience, and when the crowd is distracted he takes whatever he can get before slyly making his exit. Whatever he does get he pawns off, and gambles some of it on the Battle Royale matches.

He's stealing from people, you're robbing people. At a local venue, not far from where you DJ. People are going to catch on to that, eventually? Like, hey, I went to that show and now my watch is missing, better report it to a Jenny. And then more reports of stolen wallets and valuables all at the same wrestling place. It's a show, but you've got a side-hustle going on that's normally reserved for travelling shows, carnivals, etcetera. If you're not on the move, you'll get caught, eventually. Which I mean hey, might make for a good story hook.

Why is she a dark-type trainer? What drew her to that?

This is absolutely the place to chitter. This is a designated chittering area. The worst that'll happen is that me, or somebody like me, will point out faults or things that need improvement.

Making jewelry is neat. Taking care of Pokemon is a bit of a strange hobby, but it speaks to her caring, maternal nature. Being a Breeder is also pretty neat, that's all good. I've always liked Pokemon Husbandry when it isn't an excuse for Pokefuckers to get knocked up full of eggs. When it's the actual practice of courting two creatures for their genes.

I don't get what you mean by "which allowed the ability to sit with her Pokemon." People can normally do that, right? Sit with Pokemon? I'm thinking you may have meant sing, which would make more sense.

I'd like to hear more about her team and what they do to help raise certain types, as well as faults and flaws she may have as a character.

>>32989403
Right, see, I accounted for the fact that it was a mistake. "being gifted a perfect, ridiculously rare Pokemon as a starter because of chance". That's bad because it's just dumb luck. Providence. If something is justified, it can be excused. Like, if the character was wealthy, they could have had that starter purchased for them. Maybe they came from a line of Breeders, or were good friends with some Breeders, or something in that line. The reason being "it just sort of happened," that's not as satisfying. It's not like not knowing about his perfect IVs means his perfect IVs didn't play a part in battles. Most people ignore IVs, they're hidden values, that's half the point. At the same time, it's a better explanation than the "Volkov found this Beldum alone, fed it some berries, and they became friends" that you see so often. It's something, it's not nothing. So there's that.

>>32989912
I do rather like the physical design of the character. Mostly the outfit. Nuclear Scizor sounds pretty dumb though yeah. But Electric/Steel tech company dude, that's neat.
>>
>>32994549
>Right, see, I accounted for the fact that it was a mistake. "being gifted a perfect, ridiculously rare Pokemon as a starter because of chance". That's bad because it's just dumb luck.

Not trying to speak for him or anything, but we had been messaging each other bout of characters, and he explained to me that his character got the Beldum from his dad, who was a military mechanic that received the Beldum as like a work bonus because it was mistaken labeled as an overstocked item or something. So "dumb luck" does fit the scenario, but I rather like it. Dad gets a legit max IV military grade Pokemon because someone did some paperwork wrong, gives it to son as a gift so he can be a trainer. I like it.

>Nuclear Scizor sounds pretty dumb though yeah

Though I personally don't make up new types and jazz, I see nothing wrong with this, as long as there's some sort of backstory to why it's nuclear. Maybe some sort of catastrophic event happened, like the today wave that hit Japan, melted down some reactors, polluted some water, and years later we now have some "nuclear" variants of certain Pokemon.

>make new stone
>looks like a fuel rod
>evolved Pokemon into split nuclear evos

Maybe not a prosthetic arm, but like a knock-off Duel Disk attachment that shoots the Pokeballs out onto the field.

If you want to go all-in on that as a gimmick, make him a huge nerd that tinkers all the time. Electric trainers have that as a sort of archetype, the whole huge nerd thing. And maybe the Duel Disc gives him read outs on his team's current status and the opponent's type and it's basically the battle menu from the game. I remember there was an episode in the Johto seasons about a dude that did all his battling via simulation on a laptop because he was so confident in his tech and also kind of a cunt. So kind of like that. Collecting data, giving HP readouts, reminding you about type combinations and weaknesses, and also shooting Pokeballs out of his fucking arm. This number crunching pretentious dude that thinks he can outthink anybody because he's so smart. Probably wants to gather all the data he can, make his own Pokedex or something.

Just spitballing here.

My OCs family is wealthy as fuck so her Meowth has no desire for money, it's not thought of to have any value. Therefore, their cat doesn't stick coins on her face nor is she capable of learning Pay Day.

It's actually not glued there, and the Pokemon does not willingly put it there. It is literally a part of it, it is born with it. Maybe it's an extrusion of the skull for some offensive/defensive purpose, I dunno, but it's not even recognizable without it. Just draw it with a nose or some other cute way but there's no reason to remove the coin. Meowth has always been able to switch between quadrupedal and bipedal gaits also, so there's no problem if it prefers being on all fours.

Seriously though what's everyone's deal with Purrloin, I always found it kinda unappealing. Sharp features, doesn't look fluffy or pettable, not very cute at all. Shinx and Espurr blow it outta the water imo. And Meowth, the ones that don't talk are very cute.

The Purrloin line isn't exactly the most popular one. Back when Gen 5 was all the rage, it was panned for being vendor trash that was a poor choice to use in-game.
If anyone actually likes Purrloin, that is more of a surprise than something typical, I would think.

I'm not even in the mood to address the rest of whatever salt you're spouting about one of the things I didn't even mention, but Purugly has never been stated as being all fat. It has muscle, and a lot of fluff too. And cats are fast, many species being much faster than horses in a sprint, and Purugly is far larger than a housecat.

I don't know why I bothered, but something about your tone just drives me mad.

Tell me if this is a bad idea for a trainer:
Daughter of a martial arts clan decides to pursue cooking as a career. She brings with her the pets of her old dojo, a Growlithe and a Sneasel. The Growlithe is good for being a portable stove, while the Sneasel can dice anything, from simple fruit to the toughest vegetables.
Her goal would be to own her own restaurant, one that's home to many cultures of people, and eventually expand it out into a chain of stores.
>>

That's a pretty good idea. I'd definitely read something with this character.

And trying to think of good topics to keep the thread bumped.
>>
What are your thoughts on original characters that come into contact with, or even coming to own legendary Pokémon?
>>
>>32998463
Definitely has to be handled carefully. Running into them is one thing, but catching them, I'd be careful with.

My mc has a run-in with a couple, but he doesn't try to catch em, doesn't even realize some of them are legendaries.

My villain does have a couple "mass produced" Regis guarding his main base. But they're just clones of the real Regis and aren't as strong as the real ones.
>>
>>32998463
>Coming in contact
That's fine. Meeting legendaries tend to be the go-to goal for most OC. You still need to handle it well or risk getting a bunch of hate mails. Figuratively speaking.

>Owning
HOLD THE FUCK UP. You need a good reason for this. Like, a really good one to justify owning a legendary. Even then, know that there are some that people consider "untouchable", like the Creation Trio. Don't go there.
>>
>>32998566
Lol, it's not his goal at all. My mc isn't really worried about catching Pokemon, so when he comes across any, even ones he doesn't know what they are, or doesn't know they're legendary, he just goes "oh neat" and carries on. I'm rather fond of Celebi, so I may have him come across it in the woods at some point, give it some food, pat it on the make, and go on about his business. Never knowing he made friends with a god of time and all.

As far as my villain goes, he's an old scientist, so I can easily make it where he has, or gets, samples of regis somehow, and makes up some weaker, home made versions to use as security dogs at his lab.

But I wouldn't even try to include any world changing tier legendaries, like the weather trio, or the time and space dragons.
>>
>>32998463
Similar to what Cam sai, meeting a legendary isn't a huge deal. Even in the anime, Ash got to see Ho-Oh in the second episode of the series, that moment being one of the more iconic moments of the franchise (If the new anime special is to be believed)
Capturing one, personally, I left reserved to the end of my trainers' journies. A story I was writing with a friend of mine would eventually end with each other from opposing trainer ideologies befriending Lugia and capturing Ho-Oh, and using them against each other in an all out battle, to prove which's viewpoint is the strongest.
It really depends heavily on context RE: Owning a legendary, and I tend to be rather casual when it comes to "special snowflake" characters, such as people having a shiny Pokemon.

Since we're on the subject of food and cooking, how do you guys handle your characters preparing meals while traveling? How do you handle "meat"?

Cam carries a small fry pan on the side of his back and often cooks rice/noodles with dries vegetables and meat, and it IS Pokemon meat. Totes Tauros stakes. Wishywashy fillets. Sawsbuck flanks. Etc.
>>
>>32998463

Ah, legendaries. Meeting those would have to be few and far between with me, and it's almost never a go with me to actually catch one, unless it's for plot purposes and not permanent.

Now battling, on the other hand, that shit's alll good. It'd be just like a raid battle for... some people.
>>
>>32999309
In my setting, trainers often buy food they can easily prepare on the road, usually noodles or dehydrated veggies, or sealed MREs.

Arthur is perfectly fine with eating Pokemon and likes to fish for Magikarp, though he let one go and it ended up becoming someone else's Pokemon. For new trainers, Rangers often hold basic survival courses where people are taught to hunt their own Pidgey or something similar and kill it with their own hands. Islander culture is more upfront and comfortable about meat than others.

>>32998463
Depends. Contact with is fine, owning had better be at the height of the story, and only temporarily.
>>
>>32999318
Crash. Check yo email. Pick a number.
>>
>>32999408
Oh yeah, staple food Pokemon are Magikarp and Basulin, and other common early route shitmons since they grow fast and are hardy, and can be easily hunted.

Mostly normal types, for some odd reason.
>>
>>32999420
Checked and checked, done.
>>
>>32996808
Taking away a Farfetch'd's leek wouldn't have a negative effect, since they actually grow more of them.
>>
>>32999309
Zera will hunt for his food if he has to, but he will use every part of the pokemon he can since it would be wasteful to do otherwise
>>
>>32999309
Toplina has a near indefinite amount of sugary sweets and chips. Her Pokemon tend to try to get into her snack supply, classic examples including her Nidoqueen trying to grab her bag just to find some sugar, or how her Pangoro craves caramel candy.
Starla, on the other hand? Her Litwick handles all the cooking, and he is rather talented at the craft. He would stake his name as a butler if he is challenged to a cook off.
>>
>>32999309
If it looks like a normal animal I figure it's good to eat.
There is not many normal pig looking pokemon except the fire starter.
Some things would probably be inedible. Then you got berries, and other foods as an alternative.
>>
>>32999993
The Mankey line is technically pigs
>>
>>32999993
Pignite line. Precooked bacon.
>>
>>32999309
I think Pokemon are cool to eat, but only certain ones. Hyperintelligent or humanoid Pokemon, are no good. So most Psychic types are off the table. You want to stick to the more animalistic creatures. On top of that, if you a Pokemon is on your team, you shouldn't eat that species. It's kind of fucked up to befriend a Miltank and also eat beef. And that sort of extends into travelling companions, too. If you're traveling with a person that has a Stantler, you shouldn't be hunting venison. It's super impolite.

>>32999408
>>32999424
Magikarp are supposed to be terrible to eat. They're all scales and bone, hardly any meat. Not worth the effort. Most other fishmon are ideal, though. Basculin especially, they're stated to be delicious. Lumineon seems like good eats, too. I imagine fishing up a Wishiwashi means you get an entire school's worth of fish, which is a bonus.
>>
>>33000201
Magikarp are everywhere though, so they're easy to get for what meat they have. and
>anime canon

Nothing in-game says they're too bony, everything seems to eat them
>>
>>32994727
So how's this going?
>>
>>33000167
True but the chance of finding one is low, and ontop of that it would be a massive hastle to actually get one to cook. Ontop of that the meat is probably to tough from the whole fighting type thing.
>>33000036
I feel like they would not be worth it to eat. It's probably 90% stomach.

>>33000786
>I feel like they would not be worth it to eat. It's probably 90% stomach.

>>33000441
>not using the anime as a guiding light for how shit exists in the Pokemon World.

The games are bogged down by mechanical and conceptual limitations. The show presents a more fleshed out, living breathing world. Sure, it can be ridiculous when it comes to shit like Thunder Armor or Arbok evolving into Seviper. But when it comes to everyday life, how people and Pokemon interact, society and culture, it's a far more complete picture. The games has its fair share of bullshit, too. Kadabra Metamorphosis, Macargo as hot as the sun, bullshit sizes, plenty of instances of Pokemon knowing moves they shouldn't be able to. Like anything else, you discount the stupid nonsensical shit and stick to the rest.
>>
>>33000786
Just like the chance of finding a random pig irl is pretty low, but there are entire farms that raise them just for the meat. Could be the same kind of thing.
>>

Meat's industrialized, for the most part.
