It took a long ass time in gen 6 to max out affection so I never saw it. In gen 7 you feed the fucker one rainbow bean, give it one handjob and boom, it's maxed out.

There's nothing wrong with an optional feature for people who are a little more casual and like the pet raising aspect of pokemon. I do feel kind of bad I maxed affection for my first run and only won a few battles because a ribombee would survive 4 attacks in a row with 1 hp
