So OC question in general.
With the amount of super smart, or psychic pokemon around. Is being able to talk to pokemon still a taboo thing when making a trainer?

I think being able to actually talk word for word with Pokémon is a little on the nose, seeing as how that pioneered the entire character of N. Take away his ability to talk to Pokémon, and he's got very little going on other than the Unova legend, which takes a backseat for the most part.

Now being able to, for example, identify certain feelings or movements with heightened ability, or being able to gauge emotions with psychic ability, I think that's much more understandable.

I'd say any decently powerful Psychic type could act as a translator via telepathy. With my trainer, I played it so the base stage could only telepathically communicate basic words and cartoonish images, the second had fragmented sentences and ideas and would forget words frequently, and the final evolution could just communicate normally. Then it's just a matter of having that Psychic type present when asking other Pokemon more in-depth questions.

I'd also say that, while you shouldn't be able to understand what a Pokemon is outright saying, you can probably figure out what it's trying to get across through body language, tone, and other context clues. The trainer, most likely, says something, the Pokemon responds, the trainer spends some time trying to guess what they meant and the Pokemon eventually confirms when it's close enough. Just an extended game of charades, trying to figure out what Lassie means. After some time, though, you could probably interpret certain sounds as basic answers or ideas, but that's just from experience.

I think losing limbs in a fight against Lysandre is too much, but the idea of this Grass-type specialist having nice wooden prosthetics that are still sort of alive and branch occasionally and have flowering vines climbing them seems pretty cool. Maybe just make it some sort of general accident that doesn't insert the character into canon quite as much. Also why is she straight up green, is she actually a plant or does she spend like two hours caking herself in makeup every morning.

Dog trainer, trainer.
Ex military lady, works as a dog trainer. Has a Rottweiler version of a lycanroc.
Also has a donphan she uses as a tire for her motorbike. The way I've been playing her is pretty blunt.
Less, friendship and love. More, teaching a dog pokemon how to disarm people by ripping into there limbs.

Yo. Love the concept. I'm currently working on a story where the main antagonists goal is to force the next stage of human evolution by experimenting with splicing human/Pokemon dna (thanks Bill from gen 1 for the idea), and one of his admins is agrass type specialist that sprouts flowers from his head.

I like the idea of using in-game canon as opposed to the anime or mangas, or just going full blown oc. There is a lot of lore to the games thenselves that never seem to get tapped.

Adventurer/Explorer/Oddjobs girl.
Worked as a farmer and an intern at a Pokemon relief effort, and signature Pokemon include a bubbly Luxray and a two-faced Lopunny.
Despite being lazy and constantly hungry, she's really-really good at kicking things, and tends to latch on to fluffy Pokemon. And somehow amass a fair collection of Dark-types.

Ok so, my main antagonists deal is that he thinks people have become too dependant on pokemon and that's caused humans to pretty much stop progressing as a species. So he starts working on creating better, stronger humans through the before mentioned experiments. Each of the admins basically specializes in a specific type, and they all have traits or abilities related to their different types. But since they're all "prototypes", so to speak, they all have drawbacks too.

The plant guy. You're typical aristocratic "guy who's always holding a rose" anime pretty boy. He sprouts flowers and can produce throny vines from his arms n such. Has to drink lots of water and get plenty of sunlight. Uses Rosaraid and Cacturne.

Poison guy. Based off the old biker trainer. Mohawk, big sunglasses, open faced leather vest. Tats. Stoner type personality. Lots of drug innuendos. His blood is poisonous, but, he's not immune to his own poison. Uses an alolan Muk because it looks "trippy".

Fire chick. Choppy red hair, bad attitude. Can make fire ala Roy Mustang from FMA, but often burns herself. Trains a Charizard and can switch between X and Y form at will with no stone.

Steel type dude. Big, strong, quiet. Indestructible metal bones like wolverine, but also super heavy and moves slow. Ferrothorn and Bastiodon and his pokes. Plays defensively.

Spoopy Ghost guy. Wears a full body suit with lots of straps and stuff, and a creepy old timey gas mask. Psycho mantis clone basically. Can phase through walls. Can't be exposed to uv light. Uses a Dusknoir and Cofagrigus.

Old Ground guy. Long bearded old monk. Top shelf Earth bender, but old as fuck and his body is turning into dust. Uses Dugtio and Sandlash. Says "I remember when" a lot.

Water girl. Young. Not really bad. Can breath under water, but can never dry off. Has a Vaporeon but doesn't battle much.

Fairy girl. Water girls twin. Mildly clairvoyant. Sleeps all the time. Sylveon. No battles.

I just like big lips. I stole it from a couple of artists i saw, Originally I just did the lips solid black.
Admittedly it's pretty thick on this picture, but I guess that's a habbit i'll grow out of as I get better.
As for nose, I have a habit of giving my characters different noses. So they are more fun to draw. Everyone's characters has pointy or button noses, I like the roman nose.

This is sounding a lot more like some X-Men shit than Pokémon. Or maybe ReBurst. I don't like it, but it's not necessarily bad, just not my to my taste. If you're going to give them pun names, make them monikers or codenames. Other than that, think of the background of the characters and what a likely name would be from their environment-- what would their parents name them. For the plant aristocrat, I like something a bit French. Percival, Phillipe, Reynard. The powers are kind of generic, too, I'd have hoped for more outside the box stuff. Like, why can't the biker guy be Fairy type? Maybe make the steel dude big and slow, but play with a fast-paced team. Don't be afraid to subvert expectations any, don't just play into tropes.

I can respect going for something different, and I like the primary idea and goal the evil team here has, but the generic superpowers don't feel fresh enough. Big slow steel guy with big slow steel 'mon isn't pushing any envelopes, you know? Having an antagonist Team in a Pokemon setting is good, it's sort of important, it gives characters something to do other than gym battles. It needs work, though. It feels like an X-men ripoff. So, hey-- if the leader of the team thinks that using Pokemon has made mankind lazy and weak, why is his team using Pokemon instead of using their own supernatural abilities? It's the Team Plasma "means to an end" problem that always felt thematically incoherent (Ghetsis' reveal aside.) Have them do what people wanted when they faced Lusamine the second time in SM, have Pokemon fight a superpowered human. Would splicing humans with Pokemon DNA even count as human advancement, if that makes them inherently inhuman? Is mankind really advancing if it has to rely on Pokemon genetics, which is still a reliance on Pokemon with one or two steps removed? Maybe they could use technology instead? A bunch of cyborg enhancements. Strapping a flamethrower to your arm is probably a lot easier than turning your arm into a flamethrower with Magmar DNA.

Basically, this trainer would be the leader of an evil team. I lack a design for him currently, but think like a young black haired Hollywood Hulk Hogan who actually has hair.
His ace would be an Incineroar who he's constantly using in battles that air on TV often.
The first few battles you'd see wouldn't be very out of the ordinary, but his Incineroar would soon be fighting trained Pokémon 5 on 1 and winning without effort.
Later you'd find out that he's been bribing the trainers he fights to lose in a way that makes his Incineroar look impossibly good. He sells tickets and puts his battles on live TV for extra money with his supposed unstoppable Pokémon.
When you meet him, he'll act like the most egotistical cunt in the world, laughing at your puny Team, then challenging you to a battle using only his Pancham.
After an oddly tough fight with an un-evolved Pokémon, you obviously win with your numbers advantage; he panics and flees without paying you reward money.
Later you'll start running into his grunts, which'd be called "Team Heel Jobbers", and plot ensues.
His admins would be Archetypal heels, one would be a Monster Heel who is big and intimidating and only uses big scary Pokémon, one would be a Chickenshit Heel who uses extremely dirty tactics such as stall and evasion spam to win, and one would be a Foreign Heel, who uses any Pokémon that is vaguely russian... that is all I know right now.

There's nothing wrong with the nose. Diverse noses are good. They give character and recognizability to the face. But the lips you draw aren't appealing at all. They would be easier on the eyes if the upper and the lower lip would be a bit more evenly balanced. Thicken the upper and thinner the lower lip and you're good.

A Pewter City boy who grew up enthralled with the Moon Stone from a young age, and decided to take up astrophysics as his career. He ends up chasing down a comet hoping it will further his research into liking evolution with interstellar life.

Yeah, his team is super space themed, too. Clefable, Minior, Beheeyem, Lunatone, Solrock and Starmie. Originally started comet chasing with his childhood friend; ended up meeting interesting partners along the way.

My character from my PTU campaign, Arthur, drawn by a friend. Like any other trainer, except he's real fascinated by the mythology of the land and is following the old pilgrimages more devotedly. Wants to get tough because he's troubled that he has no idea what he wants to achieve as a trainer, while his best friend/crush is a embarking on a fulfilling Ranger career.

Starter is a Froakie that shares his desire to explore the world and similarly troubled by its own lack of direction. They met in their hometown, an island that hosts a lot of water-pokemon based culture.

Reminds me of my Grasa gym leader, who, like her Venusaur, has plants growing out of her. The water and fire gym leaders have similar strange powers, and it's implied they pass these on to their successors, or that those who are drawn to the Mirage Spots that their gyms are in eventually gain these traits and are picked to be successors.

The fire, water and grass gyms are in strange and remote places you need specific rituals to reach, like following Magikarp on an unnatural ocean current.

Everyone has different skills depending on where they're from and/or what Pokemon they have as their starter, which is pretty much the Pokemon that they will bond most closely with and grow to resemble. This guy likes sailing and exploring, and like how the Froakie line changes its skin (Protean), he wants to try being a little bit of everything. The plot line I'm thinking of though is that he can never forget that he's a water descendant at heart and finding that as a core of his identity will be important, and maybe a key to unlocking his Mega. Also, psychic trainers tend to be psychic, fairy and dark trainers are good at trickery, bug and steel trainers are very resilient, stuff like that. Gym leader powers are not meant to be explored fully, they're just mysterious NPCs that tend to their own sacred spots, and are probably even bound to them so much they cannot leave.

The mythology of the region is that in times long past, a pantheon of dragon Pokemon led the Old People from a dying world to this new one and beat the shit out of every other legendary to force them to reshape the world. There are three separate major regions, the Grasslands, Fire Plains and Sapphire Archipelago nothing sounded good with 'water' as a prefix each with a major city dedicated to their main type as the capital, playing host to a shrine and the most important gyms. Other types are scattered within each region, and in the middle a greater Dragon Capital more or less rules over all of them.

Not all Pokemon are even intelligent enough to be talked to, in my setting. An amateur psychic might be able to feel fear or other strong emotions in a way a trained observer could spot, a decently powerful one would be able to more accurate root out the mixture of emotions most Pokemon feel, and a powerful, fully-trained psychic would be the closest thing to holding a conversation, being able to transmit their own thoughts in a manner that makes sense to the Pokemon while being able to correctly sense and interpret the nuances of the target's thought processes.

At least give a twist to it or something.

But he doesn't understand them like they're speaking English. They can nod, sigh, pout, and express themselves through all manner of body language, but they're never like "hey, sup trainer? Here's my character, Zera Blanco. He's a pokemon ecologist who spends a lot of time researching pokemon in their natural environment, studying them and learning how living in different regions affects how they live. As such, he spends a lot of time living outdoors or inside of his office working on some paper. Not much of an artist, so a resized sprite will have to do.

Alright, OC time.

His name is Crash Graice, although he calls himself Crash, the Whirlwind, thinking a title would make him sound even better. Casually dressed in a summer-time fashion, with wild, red-orange hair, blue eyes, and slim build.

He's a hyperactive, big-mouthed, arrogant, battle-hungry Pokemon Trainer that loves trying out new foods, and will do anything for a battle. Oh, and he's confident enough that he'll win any battle. If he loses, well, that hits his pride hard, but he gets back up again, and train harder.

I guess I wouldn't mind Cerise's usage in a story, though I know I haven't really explained anything about her here.

Cerise Ymir is a pretty normal girl, lacking a tragic backstory or a goal in mind other than living paycheck to paycheck that she gets from her flower shop job. She doesn't battle much... at least not on purpose, most of the time she has to fight for self defense rather than running around looking for challengers or to complete her dex. She just sees her pokemon as friends and pets.

M-might not be a prime specimen for a story then...

Having superpowers doesn't make your thing the X-Men. Having a motley crew of on-the-nose superpowered gimmicks makes you the X-Men. This guy has more of a deep natural attunement thing going on, which is different in that it's original and interesting.

Fighting/Dark-type trainer from Castelia who dresses like a Scrafty. Red mohawk, baggy pants, yellow sweatshirt with the arms torn off, tattoos all up and down his arms, boxing tape on his hands, in general looks like a punk.
His ace is a Lucario that he raised from a from a Riolu and trains with human fighting styles.
He found it discarded in an alley for being a reject in some rich asshole's selective breeding program. After being a fuck-up and getting in trouble with the law his whole life, he used it as an opportunity to turn himself around and make a name for himself somewhere other than underground fighting rings, as well as a way to stick it to the man by using an 'inferior' pokemon to win.
Other pokemon include Gallade, Toxicroak, and Honchkrow. I've never gotten anything fancy done for the idea, but some guy drew this for me in a drawthread.

Braeden likes information and gossip it's even how you find the gym, by asking around. she likes to sit around and watch the world go by, sitting in a chair and taking things in. you'd often times see her at famous locations or just somewhere at a secluded place in nature.admiring everything in it.

She's cool and level headed but if you mess with her town, her men, her family she'll go on a riot. she'll hold deep grudges to those who mess with anyone she holds dear and take some convincing make her let it go.

The Metagross is Goran, his ace. Right now he has him, an alcoholic Spheal, a young Dratini and a giant Krabby. I don't usually play him dangerous, though. He's mostly just a chill guy who drinks vodka on a daily basis, likes his job and swears a lot in Russian. He acquired most of his knowledge and skills from his father who was a very experienced tank mechanic.
