Solid game, first half ramps up in difficulty pretty okay for a jrpg but falls off after.

Decent early game, great starting at around the third gym, starts to fall flat around the eighth gym. Gym leaders have interesting gimmick strategies, and there's a pretty decent variety of mons - albeit distributed poorly. The Kanto half seems lazily tacked on, and some of the level jumps are unreasonable.

GSC with more up to date roster and mechanics, new features of varying neatness, copypasted cool Platinum stuff, Kanto is closer to its RBY/FRLG self, worse music and debatable aesthetic choices
