How I see it going down:

Nihilego infects the Aether Foundation and the other Ultra Beasts, giving it a Mega style form, along with the other UBs

Solgaleo and Lunala get Fusions with Necrozma to fight them

This is what I hope we get from Necrozma and the Ultra Beasts in USUM
Just a full scale alien invasion/infection plot with tons of high stakes and characters involved

I think they can do it, they dont need to show the UBs killing anyone, just make it look and feel like something huge is going down

It just depends on how much their presence is felt during the climax
The hoenn games did it perfectly, you have the rain and sun covering half the region while ominous music plays the whole time, half the npcs comment on what goes on, and the other half lock their doors and hide in their homes until its done
