All they have to do is rip the models from the arcade game and it'll look perfect. The models are from GF anyway, just no shell shading and higher resolution

I know you're baiting, but sprites are far easier to make. If anything, they would have been lazy for sticking to 2D.

Looks like shit. I hope 3D like this never makes it to any main Pokemon game. Cell shaded is the perfect blend of 3D and cartoon that fits Pokemon much more than ugly models like the above ever could.

Wrong. They constantly change up the artstyle and poses leaving you with a cool variety of different sprites. And the most important thing: they change them inbetween games and gens. Now they made subpar 3D models so they never have to make the effort and be creative.

Did you forget gen 5 ?
They mostly took old gen sprites (Not even the good one from HGSS, they went straight for DP) and badly animated them. It was awful and I'm glad they do 3D instead of this. Sure the animation and some models need reworks, and GF need to get more creative with animation (Which they are doing since gen 7 Pokemon have way more personnality than previous gen models), but models like the Mudkip line are fine as they are.
Also, a model is far longer and takes a lot more of effort to make and animate than doing a still sprite

I feel the same way, not too fond of the Pokemon artstyle, especially for humans.
Remakes help show the older games without the limitations of the older systems, but it's easier to imagine what the world's like in an older style. With more modern games like SM, everything's shown to you, so what you see is exactly what you get.
