Platinum/HGSS are great, Gen V is great despite having a meh region itself, GSC is great for nostalgia reasons, XY because of personal reasons, Gen I mechanics blow, Gen III is meh overall, and SM just didn't live up to my expectations

Gen 4 had the worst gym leaders, worst starters, worst eevveelutions, physical special split was the only good thing to come out of it. Remakes aside. Gen 5 had shit mons but at least had a good story and a well done online for the time. The rest are games I love, and gen is is the best with out a doubt

Gen 4 was way better than the legendary filled stallfest we have today. At least mons like breloom, flygon, and lucario have easily exploitable weaknesses which require crafty teambuild to work around, as opposes to LANDO-T, MAGERNA, FROGUE, (((insert ou legendary here))) and the things that wall them.

Reasoning:
Gen 5 had terrible designs and I couldn't get the pokemon I wanted from the older generations, while there is still something here. Metagame was by far the best
Gen 7 is a fucking 10 dollar game being retailed as 40, designs are trash, metagame is trash, end game is trash.
Gen 6 was bad though mega evolutions were a neat idea but also cancerous to the meta.
BW2 had what I wanted out of a sequel, more pokemon, higher diffuculty, just more in general. Coupled with the metagame this game was easily able to make up for it's predecessors mistakes.
Gen 1 and Gen 3 are both great games in their own rights but their is just not enough their for me to say its my favorite.
Gen 4 introduced the phys/special split, had interesting designs, a good metagame, and overall was a solid experience from start to finish
Gen 2, and HGSS more in particularly, had the most amount of content and harbored the most amount of fun for myself. Being able to return back to the iconic Gen 1's Kanto, refight the gym leaders, and than refight a stronger elite four remains today being the best end game of the pokemon series. Gen 2's metagame got rid of the bullshit from psychic types and introduced a form of stall with blissey and steelix.
