I have no reason to be hyped for that. I don't know anything about Unno. He has not made a single game. He improved on a game made by Masuda, sure, but beyond that, nothing. I don't know his ability to make a game from scratch, so I don't have any reason to be hyped. Making a full game is far more harder than just adding a bunch of shit in completed game.

Yes, he made some interesting additions to BW, like PWT. But he also made some extremely retarded decisions, like forcing PokeStar on everyone and making hard mode, but making it exclusive to a single game, after you complete that said game. He's made some good decisions, but he's also made some retarded decisions. And that can be said about literally everyone. Even the fuckers who make Rom Hacks. They do essentially the same thing. I wouldn't want them making a game.

The other new thing he added in BW2 was the story, and while it made FAR more sense than BW's, it was generic and shit. BW had a shit story full of holes, but at least it had a more interesting premise, it felt more personal. He went back to the generic destroy the world shit.

All in all, as a storyfag, I'm hoping he gets his shit together, and I hope he's half competent at making games. He fucked up on some levels while editing completed games, so that makes me worried about his new content.

I seriously doubt they they JUST began development. These gooks receive dev kits for new consoles early on and usually start new gen development at the same time another team is finishing up development for a new game; i.e 2010-2013 for XY.

The fact that USUM are being directed by Ohmori again has me thinking that someone else is directing the Switch game. That also implies that development on it could have started as early as SM development. Maybe Masuda is directing again? That would explain his role in Gen 7 being strictly production.

Tajiri is basically out of the question at this point, though I would like to see another game with the same feeling and aesthetic as Generation I and II. I think that even if Tajiri came back to be something beyond an Executive Producer, Pokémon has gotten so focused on being international and inclusive that going back to the days where there was more of an edge and the world felt more Japanese is unlikely. He was clearly building up Masuda to take over series production since at least Gold and Silver, so I don't know how he'd do on a game released 19 years later.

I'd probably turn down Masuda. He's never blown me away in his directing, but he is my favorite composer.

Definitely no to Ohmori, his games so far have felt like they're missing major key features. The highs are fairly high, but the lows are pretty low.

I have a hard time outright saying yes to either Kawachimaru or Unno since they each only have one role as director beneath their belts, and both to pre-existing content. If the Pokémon game on the Switch is an entirely new game rather than a retread, I don't know how either of them would do, but I'd feel safer with Unno of the two since B2W2 were significantly more different to BW than Platinum was to DP, and I felt that DP was one of Masuda's strongest showings to begin with. B2W2 is also considered one of the strongest pillars in the franchise, and while Platinum is too, I think of Platinum as more of a refinement than a massive leap forward.

Like Kawachimaru and Unno, Morimoto has only done games that have pre-existing models to work off of, but he's done two as opposed to just one like they have, and both times were successful, HGSS arguably being one of the best games in the entire franchise, and Emerald frequently being put in the #4 spot of the main series overall (which is pretty impressive for 16-going-on-17 releases). Morimoto has been around since the very beginning, and I think he has a good grip on the series.

To sum it up, I think that Morimoto is the safer choice by virtue of having done more and having been around longer than Unno (who has been around since Ruby and Sapphire), but giving Unno another chance may just be the proof we need to see if he's more than a one-trick pony. Unno built upon BW, which was directed by Masuda, and Morimoto built upon Emerald and HGSS, which were directed and sub-directed by Masuda respectively, and the latter which was directed by Tajiri. I'd put HGSS above Emerald, but that might just be saying I put Tajiri's best directorial work over Masuda's first biggest role.

We don't really know what the Switch game will be. It could be Generation VIII, a third version, a sequel, or remakes. Hell, it could even be a stadium battler with a core RPG mode for all we know. Going by all the recent wink-wink nudge-nudge with Generation IV material, my guess is that it's going to be a Generation IV remake so they can properly tie everything in without waiting 2 more years. If it really is a singular game rather than paired games, then there's the possibility that it's a remake of Platinum of all things rather than just DP (possibly as a way to address criticism with ORAS' lack of Emerald content), but I don't want to go too far with that speculation. If it IS a Platinum remake, I think that it'll have a solid foundation right off the bat no matter what. The question will simply come down to "Can Unno's remake surpass Morimoto's?"

It seems far more likely that they'll be gen 8 games, with DP remakes coming either before on the 3DS, or after on the Switch. I too have learned to keep my expectations low or just not have any at all. It's gotten to the point where I feel foolish for expecting them to try to outdo themselves. I've grown more cynical in recent years, to the point that I feel like they're just tossing out games stripped of content and features just so they can release another one the year after with the stripped content so they can make a quick buck. I'm also worried about spin-off games slowly dying off and being replaced with mobile games. Yeah, there's Pokkén Tournament DX this year, but it's a port of a port from 2015. There's Detective Pikachu from early 2016, and I'm sure it'll get some sort of English localization, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just made future iterations mobile games. Other than that, there was Super Mystery Dungeon in later 2015.

I get that expectations should be reasonable, but is it reasonable to have expectations?
