I disagree. All pokedex data suggests it is a loner who has a mane. One could argue it could be a maned wolf (native to south america) but they have super long deerlike legs and look like freaky foxes and are DEFINITELY not wolves in any sense of the word.

I've always thought of manectric as being a hyena. Yeah, i know, mightyena exists in the same gen but i just assumed one was a pack hyena while the other was solitary.

Either way they're absolutely NOT wolves. Midget maned 'wolves,' loner hyenas, i'd even accept coyotes with manes or simply wild dogs with manes. Not wolves.

Base Sceptile already got a number of Dragon moves and was part of the Dragon egg group. It's pretty clear it got the Charizard treatment of "we want an elemental dragon starter but actually making it Dragon type would fuck up the type triangle."

Unfortunately anyone who actually liked this Pokemon seems to have left Game Freak before gen 4 started and it's just gotten shit on relentlessly ever since.
