It is. They're hard trolling us at this point. They keep teasing DP remakes even though USUM comes out this year and the first Switch game is most likely Gen 8.
Unless the Switch game only comes out in 2019, then DP remakes could come out next year but then people will complain about it being on the 3DS.

I'm gonna be pissed if this is just re-writing the anime to recon everything; if it's a different timeline or something, I'll be more okay with it. I just wish this anniversary movie had to do more with the history of the anime, as opposed to, well, whatever this is.

This might make sense if the anime had some kind of continuity. It doesn't: the fact that Ash is still 10 after two decades of airing negates the existence of a continuity.
Think of it like The Simpsons: Homer and Marge have met for the first time in:

>when Homer had a grunge band during the 90s

So Ash and pikachu die in that last scene then Ho-oh revives them making them immortal.
