I'll start by saying that Heroes, 4Ever, and 3 top the list for me.

>What's your favorite?
A tie between Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and Spell of the Unown.
>Why?
Both movies felt rather fresh in their own way. Lucario movie was refreshing in terms of plot, while Molly is my favorite anime Pokemon villain because she's different and is just interesting to watch her. There's a whole lot of other reasons why I love both, though.
>Dub vs. Jap?
In general? I always watch the Japanese version whenever I can catch a subbed version. Mostly because I struggle to watch the dubbed version at times where they usually butcher the writing, especially in the Pokemon Heroes dub.

I have no doubt Molly is actually very relatable to a lot of young and old viewers alike. It's clear that her mother is not in the picture meaning that all she has is her father, and he clearly takes a lot of time away from her to do his research as noted through her complaint that "it's always him" when his partner emails him. Since he's pretty much all she's got when she hears he's disappeared her emotions sort of run away, which is where the Unown come along and feed on her fears and emotions to create the world within the mansion. All she wants is a normal life with a happy family and now she has the power the make that happen she doesn't want it to stop, something very easy to understand for children of broken homes or homes with Asian work-ethic dads who are home for barely 8 hours a day.

The Entei movie is arguably the best one for that reason.

It's the only one where all the Ash team does something useful outside of the intro (both Brock and Misty and the pokemon) it just feels different from what I seen of the others.

I haven't watched a whole lot and it was a long time ago so here we go.
Entei > Darkrai > Mewtwo > Arceus > Lugia > Shaymin
Mewtwo is high for nostalgia reasons more than anything, I like when the movies have a battle as the intro so Arceus is higher than lugia for that reason alone.

Any movie that showcases the pokemon in a natural setting is a good pick for me, so Pokemon Forever is high on the list. How about the shorts? What's your favorite of those?.

I thought we agreed long ago that the 3rd movie is the only one approaching 'decent'. The rest are just big-budget extended special episodes featuring x legendary Pokemon.

I know the dub of the first movie is utter crap, but I can't hate it because of the immense nostalgia value it has for me. That shit was the hypest I'd ever been and I couldn't sleep that night because I kept thinking about it and playing the songs in my head. It's shit but it's my shit.

The sub is a decent movie, though Entei is better.

Volcanion had a bit of that with the plateau where there were wild Pokémon living together. The whole movie wasn't about that though.

Manaphy also had a ton of water Pokémon swimming around in the ocean near the end, but that movie is mostly crap, so whether or not you want to sit through 80 minutes of bullshit to get to the ocean part or not would be up to you.

Same here. Hoopa was also terrible, but that was less long and at least watching Ash command Legendaries was kind of cool, even if the movie made no attempt to convey what was actually going on and who was winning at any point in the fight.

No "arguably" about it really. Most Pokémon movies have a "chosen one" or "special legendary form" that's there to be the focus. In spell of the unown it's just a lonely little girl trying to have a family again. By far the most depth of any Pokémon movie plot lines

Probably because it's so long and drawn-out coupled with the utter absurdity of the climax which only really works if you're drunk or high. That and the whole thing builds up May as the star before cucking her out of saving the day because reasons.

Fuck, I'm listening to that Lugia song at the moment and I'm feeling emotional as fuck because of the nostalgia. Pokemon 2000 will forever by my favourite.

Goddamit, Ash used to ride magnificent, godly creatures like they were little ponies and attempt to sucker punch them in the face only to get turned into stone. Nowadays, Ash is just childish loser, what happened?

I like the Sinnoh ones that feature Giratina the best. Shaymin is one of my favorites purely for that and for the scenes of Regigigas being awesome. Basically anytime a movie features pokemon being kaiju-like and huge forces of nature it's my jam.

The Keldeo movie starts with the Swords of Justice mentoring Keldeo in different natural places on how to become a hero of Pokemon, and then we get to Kyurem's "home" wich is an abandoned mine.
If it wasn't for the "world of pokemon" intro, the movie would give the impression of taking place in a human-less fantasy land up until Keldeo escapes to fight Kyurem. There is something eerie about the part where the fog goes away and we suddendly see the railways for the first time. The artificial place feels "not safe" unlike the natural ones shown before, and we are left wondering why exactly is it abandoned...
It's part of why this movie is my favorite out of the Pokemon ones. It really sold me on the idea of the Swords of Justice being knights of nature that exist separated from civilization and don't need trainers. It made me want a full movie without humans (maybe based on the Mystery Dungeon games, though those have the pokemon living somewhat like humans).

I remember the Manaphy movie being good and comfy af- what did you guys not like about it?

As for the best, it's a toss-up between Mewtwo, Spell of the Unown, 4ever and Heroes. I remember Darkrai an's Lugia also being quite good.

The Manaphy one was all over the place yet somehow still didn't have enough plot to fill its bloated runtime. It didn't help that the movie was about May but they put her in a capsule and cucked her out of being the heroine.
