I really don't get this cutscene meme, If you play through it the first time you'll "watch" them anyways because it's important to the story. Can imagine it being somewhat of an inconvenience if you replay the game, but in previous games you had loads of dialog thrown at you yet nobody complained about that.

And I got annoyed at that when I played Gen 5 and 6 too (though I like Gen 5 despite that), but Gen 7 takes it to a new level. When I have to mash A for five minutes before I can go to a new route EVERY TIME it's a major problem. There are RPGs that have a lot of dialogue that I can enjoy, but the thing about those RPGs is they have (relatively) better-written plots and characters than Pokémon and those series aren't traditionally focused on exploration to the degree of Pokémon. I fucking hated Lillie and her personality that consisted of "uguu I'm so useless and helpless but won't do anything to improve myself for 90% of the game *scrunchy face*" that basically turned the game into one long escort mission, I think I'd rather deal with the shit-tier rivals from XY again than Lillie by herself.
USM needs to tone shit down or include a skip button. I couldn't give a shit about the story in Pokémon. It needs to tone down the roadblocks too because that shit also got to a ridiculous extreme. I thought the Flare grunt telling em "come back when you have four badges" in XY was the worst we'd get with roadblocks, but Olivia told us to go do trials and then we could go to Diglett Cave, only to coincidentally tell us "hey you should go to [plot important place] before you go here" after we did exactly what she demanded of us. If you're going to put roadblocks in your game it needs to be diagetic, like how HMs were in the past.

SM was Lillie's story, that was something they deliberately went with. So if you'd like Lillie there would no problems, as most characters including Lillie show so much more character (eg Guzma Kukui etc) and makes it much more bearable IMO. It's a shame it makes the MC look so incredibly soulles as he/she never shows any emotions whereas everyone else does.
What I'm trying to say is they are improving step by step, but are forgetting about other things. The perfect way to describe GF in recent years is "two steps forward and one step back".
So I am confident USUM will be the at least somewhat better, and will do something about the issues you mentioned, sooner or later at least.

The cutscene problem would be talked about a lot less if SM had a decent post-game as the post-game usually has no cutscenes. USUM will most likely have a good post-game, because every 3rd game has had this in the past.

Not necessarily, the replay value would still be fucked, but you're right that if I liked the character shoved in my face it would definitely be better than me hating the character being shoved in my face. I think the reason I hate Lillie rather than being just mildly annoyed is specifically because she's shoved in my face.
I think Gen 8 might fix this issue, but I expect USM to be SM with extra stuff and not anything like a sequel, so I expect the main plot to be the same and thus Lillie continue getting shoved in my face for the entire game.

It's going to be the last game on the system, and the last games before we get a full console experience, I want them to go all out and let us complete the national dex with just one pair of games

Plus Alola is a diverse enough region to house pretty much everybody and with stuff like New Areas, Friend Safaris, Dexnavs, Swarms, etc. it's certainly possible

We even have characters from every region who can give us each of the starters (once they give Johto a rep, probably Lance or Eusine)

yeah I guess the original third version was Blue, and that was an improvement on all fronts (aside from making the game less hilariously broken and exploitable with silly glitches).
Anyway I think USM will need to improve on SM much more than any third version has ever done because it's starting off the second lowest point in the franchise as far as single-player content goes. There have been a lot of neat improvements in SM but playing on the battle spot can sometimes get stale (and frustrating if your internet connection isn't that good). I'd be content even with just another Battle Factory to dick around with wacky sets without breeding and training shitmons

No it won't. ORAS still has nearly all the legendaries. The next game to have as many legendaries as ORAS will be Sinnoh remakes. Gen 8 Core Pair + Sinnoh Remakes will be enough to capture 900+ Pokemon.

Since these are the last game of the generation, and of the system itself they'll stuff in as many mons as they can so I can see them bringing most of the legendaries back
