It is to me, stuff like the church in DPP help Sinnoh feel like a place with an actual culture and differentiates it from the other regions.

There is so much stuff about the Pokemon world that some people want answers to. The fact that Special took the games and attempted portray them as a functioning society is probably part of the reason the series got popular.
