I'm replaying Gale of Darkness and the animations in this game are so good. Everything from the attacks to faints to hit reactions have a great sense of weight and timing.

Shame the actual attack particles are garbage tier overlays and the model quality is PS1 tier.
XY models >>>>>>> Stadium models
>Pokemon XD

Maybe they're technically better, but they're way more bland when animations are cut down and every pokemon has the same static idle animation. Then you also have issues like Haxorus where body details are left out, and the 3DS games are much less interesting to look at than the Stadium-Revolution games.

Well all the kanto and johto are just their stadium models. Though that isn't a bad thing, the stadium models had a ton of personality to them that I really miss.
Even just this random one. The fact persian lays down in it's idle animation and the ears twitching is cool. Sadly with how many pokemon had to get models the new models for the 3ds games are quite generic in comparison. I'm hoping with the switch game we get newer, more active models.

Here's the new one for comparison. It's pretty boring.

We're going to be stuck with the 3DS models for the next 10 years so I hope they at least improve the animations in gen 8.

It's not the models that are the problem, it's the animations.
This is why GF just needs to hire an external animation studio. There's no point to having 800 Pokemon if only a few of them are expressive enough to be charming.

The 3DS games also make so that a single trainer battle doesn't last 15 fucking minutes thanks to those animations.
>>32820484
yes because there is absolutely no way they could make them inbetween the two extremes

What we have now is that. We got all in the "evolution" bar: immobile(sprites) to moving sprites(V) models with many animations(VI) models with many LONG animations(Colo/XD)

the issue is the timing of the animations, not the animations themselves.
