Please explain to me /vp/ why the most of you hate the idea of pokemon having an open world instead of linear rutes? with the latest announcement of the Switch core game I think it's the ideal time to do it.

An open world Pokemon RPG wouldn't even work without changing core mechanics. They'd have to make the AI scale to your level or something.

even stranger is many people complain that pokemon is bad
yet they say the open world will be bad and won't work. so what? i'd rather they try something new and fail than keep doing the same shitty thing, at the very least they'd learn something from it and can build off of it in the future

the pokemon formula has already peaked. there will never be a 'perfect' pokemon game because they always remove good features that should be mainstays for whatever dumb reasons they have

No one likes linear routes. People miss the fact that you can tackle some of Kanto and Johto's gyms in any order, and they would love an open world game, if it was done well. Considering that Game Freak can't even properly optimize their own game, the chances of that happening are slim.

There were only like three gyms you could tackle out of order and that probably wasn't intentional. Kanto being open world in gen 2 only worked because by now you've got a beefed up team that can take on enemies 20 levels higher than you. And most of the NPCs used unevolved shitmons.

Like hell it has. Game Freak can't even make a linear adventure without filling it up with awkward roadblocks. What makes you think they could make a decent open world game?

actually, an open world could work and wouldn't even need to have ai scale to you, it just means you're getting too big for your britches (I haven't even lost a fight aside from battle facilities in 4 Gens). the bigger issue is, that gamefreak has a hard on for railroading you through a guided tour, despite a vast majority of the customer base being veteran pokemon players.

aside from that, too many open world games are 10% point of interest 90% nothing but filler space. the very premise of pokemon and having 800+ pokemon can remedy that itself by spreading the pokemon out in various areas.

buuuut... Game Freak has no experience in this mode of design at all if anything they'll have to have an outside expert in open world design holding their hand through development.
