I'm about to start another game, wondering if I should mix up my typical team.
Pic related is my typical RB team, they're all pretty self explanatory picks.
Dugtrio because you can catch early at lvl 30+.
Hitmonchan because Firepunch, Icepunch, Lighteningpunch.
>>32768752
Pic related is my typical Y team. Dugtrio and Hitmonchan for the same reasons as >>32768752
Pikachu is a questionable choice over Zapdos, but novelty.
and it would make more sense to capture Articuno vs training Blastoise, but I'd rather have a balanced team early in the game.
Some OC from Deep Ellum, Texas, snapped when Blink 182 came to town last year. At the height of Pokémon Go excitement too. Very nostalgic day.
I'd say go with
>Venusaur
Bulky af
>Arcanine
Good attacker
>Pidgeot
For Fly
>Gyarados
Self explanatory
>Snorlax
See above
>Rhydon
Is underrated
This is a pretty standard team but it's fun.
>Nidoking
>Farfetch'd (RB Cut+Fly slave) / Charmander + any bird (Y Cut/Fly slaves)
>Lapras (Strength+Surf slave)
This is literally all you need to waltz through RBY with zero effort. Grinding entire Pokemon teams is a slow way to complete Pokemon games when you can dump your entire battle experience into one Pokemon and overlevel it to the point it oneshots almost everything it comes across, provided it has decent base speed to outspeed everything and good offensive movepool (BoltQuakeBeam in Nidoking's case).
If you want some semblance of challenge then go for a maximum pokedex completion before Champion fight. I'm doing such a run right now, took 10 hours to get to Fuschia Safari Zone using Venusaur, Dugtrio and Hypno as my combat Pokemon + dumping extra experience into a bunch of misc mons to evolve them. Still have only 32 out of around 120 Pokedex entries I'll have by the time I finish it, provided Safari Zone grind won't make me drop the game. Will finish E4 with Dragonite (need to grind the sob from 20 to 55) + legendary birds (obtained at 50).
>>32768901
Are you trolling? I'm new to /vp/...
>Venusaur
Cool
>Arcanine
So wait until second half of game?
>Pidgeot
All the legendary birds are lvl 50, fly, and don't have to be trained from a Pidgey.
>Gyarados
Meh
>Snorlax
Are you trolling?
>Rhydon
Again, not until second half of game? I could have a level 40 Dugtrio before I have the opportunity to catch a lvl 30 Rhydon
>>32768969
Krabby is only slave worth having, Surf Strength Cut....
Nidoking why tho?
If I wanted a one Pokémon team tank I would just level my starter to 70 on the way to E4. Why wait half the game to get your main?
>>32769020
>Nidoking
>half the game
You what? You can have a Nidoking by Mt. Moon.
>>32768999
Yes. Im telling to build your end game team around these mons. Do whatever the hell you want until you can catch the entire team. Snorlax is a fucking powerhouse and so is Gyarados. The legend burds are ducking pleb tier and the only good one is Zapdos.
>>32768752
>RBY team
>FRLG
??????
>>32769037
>>32768969
You can get nidoran when you reach veridian city and evolve it into nidoking before you exit mt moon.
>>32769037
What advantage does Nidoking have over the starters?
Is it because Snorlax and Gyrados have a fuckton of HP? I'd rather catch an Articuno than train a Magikarp to lvl 50 any day.
>>32769163
They have the same Pokémon, right?
>>32769178
In gen 1 it can learn a lot of tm and since pokemon learn almsot no moves it's super good
In FRLG, it has nothing over them
>>32768752
I refuse to beleive anyone can run Hitmonchan with elemental punches until gen IV.
The damage drops so drastically due to its nothing special attack, any sane human would give up or restart with a new moveset.
Refuse to beleive non troll
I've played through gen 1 a billion times and I realized I've always used the same pokemons
Here's all the pokemon I've never used before. Pick 6 for me.
>>32769226
forgot the pic
>>32769218
just teach it other moves?
My typical team is Nidoking, squirtle, spearow/pidgey and paras
>>32769178
Venusaur has no moves. Charizard is a Fire type in generation where Fire is one of the worst types. Blastoise is very good, but has to rely on Normal attacks to break through Water types and doesn't evolve as early as Nidoking. It's probably on par overall and the safer option since Nidoking has four weaknesses which are all pretty common and dangerous, so it can get hurt a lot if it fails to oneshot something with the attack in question.
>>32769212
Nidoking isn't used in FRLG because its good moves are difficult to obtain (IB/TB from awful Game Corner grind, Earthquake from final gym) instead of piss easy like in Gen 1 (Thunderbolt from Surge, Ice Beam from Celadon Store Roof, Earthquake from Silph Co).
>>32769240
Use Clefable. It's the next best option after Nidoking and Blastoise.
>>32769218
I don't know much about the technical aspects... Are you saying because Hitmonchan's "special" is low, his elemental attacks do low damage?
I realize that, but he's the Swiss Army Knife Pokémon to me. With any double digit level advantage he still one-shots susceptible opponents.
>>32769240
Wigglytuff
Victreebel
Omastar
Jynx
Electrode
Nidoqueen.
Never used them all on the same team, but all are fun.
Electrode needs a bit of handholding, but us fun.
Wigglytuff and nidoqueen might compete for TMs so plan accordingly.
(Wiggly is more fun in gen 2. Elemental punches make everything more fun.)
>>32769240
Nidoqueen
Haunter
Dugtrio
Arcanine
Rhydon
Hitmonchan
You welcome
>>32769248
His specifically said with punches.
I have done this once and no one would continue doing so.
>>32769273
Not sure if troll or some stupid normie vagina that wandered off facebook.
>>32769272
>Use Clefable. It's the next best option after Nidoking and Blastoise
Gonna be playing FRLG tho, I just finished playing RBY
>>32769282
Really like that team, that's what I'll use. Thanks
>>32769273
Here is a list of common special attackers with good coverage:
>Nidoking/queen
>Slowbro
>Starmie
>Clefable
>Wigglytuff
Things that are not
>Hitmonchan
>>32769321
But you have to teach them all TMs right? Hitmonchan comes loaded.
>>32769332
with his special attack, he will be doing more damage with tackle
>>32769332
Even if you don't want to clone TMs AND you've used TBolt/ Icebeam on something that doesn't learn it naturally, this is the gen where Blizzard is 90 accuracy, and almost everything on that list can tank hits easily while OHKOing back with SE hits.
>>32769348
Tempted to do the calcs to back up Normal/ Fighting coverage drastically out damages SE special hits from Hitmonchan.
Only thing it cant hit with two moves neutrally being gengar.
>>32769384
On a butterfree (so weak to fire, electric and ice) it does the same amount of damage if the butterfree has a sp.def nature.
The punches do slightly more without the +sp.def nature
That's with SE and moves with double the power. Any physical move will outdamage the punches easily
>>32769384
>>32769455
Now using the butterfree and hitmonchan with moves he actually uses.
We can see that a x4 resisted brick break deals almost the same damage as the elemental punches. x 4 R E S I S T A N C E
Or instead just use rock slide and ohko it
>>32769384
>>32769455
>>32769494

>>32769455
>>32769494
>>32769504
Thankyou my man. Proves the point beautifully.
I am usually against telling people they're having fun wrong, but the deluded soul must've been having to seriously contrive how he played the game to even think of using it.
>>32769534
I mean, nothing wrong with using it but don't say it's good
So now that you nerds are done with the circlejerk, can you explain to OP the casual why Hitmonchan is no good?
If you're playing gen 1 use mons that learn 1 hit ko moves to use the x accuracy glitch.
>>32769612
Hitmonchan is good, what's bad is using the elemental punches. They do special damage and hitmonchan has a really low special attack stat
>>32769612
Hitmonchan is great, but its physical moves (normal and fighting, with rock in FRLG) vastly out damage its special.
If you want to use the elemental punches on it, play gen 4 or later
>>32768901
>pidgeot
when fearow, dodrio, aerodactyl (if your willing to grind) and the legendary birds exist, pidgeot is a waste of time
>>32769612
Mostly shit stats - pic related. Also awful movepool in the first two gens. It's actually usable from Gen 3 onwards, but misses out on elemental punches before physical-special split in Gen 4. It's also outclassed by a whole bunch of other Fighting types.
Who the fuck uses legendary pokemons
>>32770006
What's wrong with them?
>>32770006
>won't use zapdos, has no problem with a pseudo
>>32770006
Do you have non-meme autism? Serious question.
>>32768752
Mine was:
Venusaur
Magneton
Ninetales
Lapras/Starmie
Gengar
Dragonite
The game was a piece of cake. I had to waste all my money on Dratini because I didn't want to spend hours on the Safari Zone
>>32768752
Current Fire Red Team
>Charmeleon
>Gloom
>Pikachu
planning on using Dugtrio, Hypno or Mr. Mime and Poliwrath.
>>32769240
>never used my favorite Pokémon
What the FUCK anon
Your team is
>Sandslash
>Arcanine
>Slowbro
>Gengar
>Electrode
>Weezing
Optional; replace someone with Kangaskhan. Also both fossils are great if you've got the balls to grind them up
My team in pokemon Yellow so far is
Venusaur
Charizard
Wartortile
Machamp
Rhyhorn
Kangaskhan
>>32770516
I'm grinding areodactyl in pokemon fire red where i'm using the team red used in the adventures manga
>>32768752
My team has always been the same, even when I was a kid I knew I had good taste
>Squirtle
because Ice Beam against Venusaur
>Pikachu
because early electric against Misty
>Abra
because early Psychic
>Gastly
because ghotsfag
>Growlithe/Vulpix
depends on the version, I prefer Vulpix because Confuse Ray
mandatory Krabby HM slave
Everything else is shit
