Just because most gens except 3 and 4 where 3 years, doesn't mean GEN VII can't break the patern and be 2 years.

The last two games on 3DS were likely meant to be Z and Delta Emerald. But suits wanted a new gen for 20th anniversary so they got scrapped and they started gen VII early instead. Which then got cut short because of moving to the Switch.

Them taking the sinnoh region sounds like a much better choice. They don't need a whole new layout. No new pokemon but a few sinnoh forms.
