These two posts are mostly right. Everyone else is wrong.

There are no bad mainline pokemon games, even though Diamond and Pearl come close to it. They're still not bad games. People really need to learn that "Thing I don't like"=/=Bad Game. Yes, most of the time it does, but not in a mainline pokemon's case.

I was disappointed with ORAS, but I wouldn't call them bad games.

I thought the B/W "friends" were annoying and would never leave you fucking alone. But I liked them a whole lot more in B2/W2 also Team Plasma was impossible to take seriously in the first one.

The game wasn't even FINISHED for crying out loud and the story was atrocious with Kukui/Guzma/Hau/Hala being the only characters that didn't piss me off for simply existing.

I think the shoehorning in elements from the anime dampened the experience, and to me the replay value of Pokemon is choosing a different starter and building a team around it each time you play. In Yellow your starter is predetermined and they give you all of the others which you will feel obligated to use giving you only 2 slots for team customization.

Dude, Yellow is not an improvement over Red or Blue. The level curve is bullshit with both Sabrina and Koga being nearly 20 levels above Erika. Not only that but you're forced to start with a Pikachu that doesn't evolve which is all well and good because anime, but Ash's Pikachu has a huge boost in stats and luck and shit while yours doesn't, so it's basically useless for the main game.

Too lazy to make a chart of my own for now, but I don't see why people would label DP as one of the worst Pokémon games, when it isn't imo. It wasn't the best, no, but it certainly wasn't the worst, it was a decent game. I used to think it was actually good before I got my hands on Platinum, which is still a huge favorite of mine to this day.

People that rate it low most likely didnt play it when it came out and emulated it. They have a onlookers perspective of the series as a whole.

When DP came out the changes were tremendous. Wifi, the phys/spec split, return of day/night, added a ton of new Pokemon and evolutions. When you look back in time its easy to take this for granted.

People cite its slow animation speeds but the only instance that really mattered was surfing. Otherwise its a copout as to why it was "bad".

Also they were the last games to be somewhat balanced before the power creep hit
