Normal is fine as it is, but if we're talking about changes, I think there are only 2 "buffs" that would make sense for them:

>Completely neutral against all types
Nothing resists it, nothing is weak to it. It is weak to nothing, has no resistances. A true neutral, all-purpose type, which is the idea behind normal to begin with.

However, considering the kind of mons we have nowadays, the "true neutral" approach would affect the meta for the worst, making explosion incredibly more common (nothing can switch in to tank it, you're guarantee to dent 1 out of 6 opponent mons everytime), return would be EVERYWHERE, giving physical sweepers a perfect neutral coverage option of 102 power to abuse against anything they can't hit harder. Normal types themselves would gain from having STAB on these unresisted strong moves, but ultimately the already good normal types would become better by losing their fighting weakness, while the already bad normal types would become worse by losing their ghost immunity and being even more outclassed by literally everything.


>Giving it a fairy resist
Mundane people don't believe in fairies and are oblivious to magic. While ghosts are on a completely different plane and thus they just cannot affect normal mons no matter what, fairies are still just physical beings with magic bullshit, and their power decreases greatly if no one believes in them, so normal resisting them could be justified.

This would make normal a 1-weakness, 1-resistance, 1-immunity type. Still no offensive prowess, but they'd have 1 out of every defensive matchup they could have. Completely "average". This fairy resist gives them another thing they can switch into, and abuse their huge coverage on. All normal types gain from this, and all around it helps balancing fairy, even if that type has other bigger problems to adress, but we have a thread about that every week so I digress.

Rock types are shit because they're slow and weak to every common offensive move in the game, Rock is an offensive type given almost exclusively to defensive mons just like ice types

It doesn't matter, it still s important for pokémon of that type. Like how Grass types have a bunch of weaknesses but they try to help alleviate that by giving them access to a bunch of status and healing options.

Normal type is the jack of all trades type. And it is perfectly balanced, only having one weakness. It's fine.

Disadvantages:

>fighting is a commonly used offensive type

Notice how Heliolisk does not benefit from being a Normal type. It doesn't have a wide movepool, and it doesn't have any good special Normal attacks at all. Ghost immunity isn't that useful, so basically all the Normal type is doing to it is giving it an extra weakness.

Making something weak to Normal defeats the point of a Normal Type.

Something I would like to see would be an overall 30%-50% power increase to Normal moves (removing the –ate bonus, of course), making Normal the best type to attack things neutrally. That could make Normal a decent coverage option, and Normal STAB damn scary, with things like a 225 power Return, a ~200 power Hyper Voice, or even e a ~340 power Hyper Beam/Giga Impact.

Why the fuck would you buff the type with the two most broken attacking moves in Extreme Speed and Boomburst? If you're concerned about lack of representation of offensive Normal types then just wait for decently strong users of said moves.
Normal is also pretty good on damage sponges like Chansey and Porygon2 who appreciate having only one weakness to watch out for. Furthermore Normal/Ghost is one of the best typings in existence and will likely make a meta-defining mon in the future, unless GF fucks up its stats/movepool/ability.
