No reason has ever been given but Kris does have an unused sprite in the pokégear so the choice to replace her with lyra was made late into development.

It's not like they could detect fake mews too well, they just decided to only let one specific mew pass through the bank.
They could forgo the in-game event and distribute their own special celebi (like they did with arceus back in the day) or they could give away that masterball to all players form the beginning and forget about it ebtirely.

I mean, they've already given away Celebi a bunch anyway, including when Bank first launched, so I honestly don't see what the big deal is either way.

They seem to think these "mythical" Pokemon are so special that they should be impossible for people to get whenever they want, but that's stupid. Perhaps they should be hard to get but just making them available once in a blue moon (and not always online for free) is dumb and encourages people to hack to get these games.

I'd have bought Crystal day one, but since it's only Gold and Silver, I have to decide if I wait for Crystal or buy Gold or Silver now.
