For the first few months after the games came out there were loads and loads of cringeworthy guz threads. I will never forget a comment where anon described in detail purchasing a dildo that she felt would resemble what Guzma's cock would look like and use it to pleasure herself while imagining it was him.
I have never cringed so hard on this board and I think of it sometimes when I see his character. I wish I could forget it but at the same time I wish I would have taken a screenshot.
His purpose may be unclear but he did provide a healthy amount of orgasms for at least one female autist.

He and his goons are meant to be a laughable bunch

in my opinion, its a self-aware take on the typical pokemon bad guys: a bunch of pushovers with no purpose who act like a bunch of idiots

if you pay attention to the dialogue there is a surprising amount of self reflection and reference

I think Team Skull is one of the best pokemon villain teams. They were a breath of fresh air, easily better than the first 3 or 4 gens of villains.

He's the kind of guy who would do DV, or at least be somewhat abusive. He constantly says he would "beat down" anyone who gets in his way (it's worse in the Japanese version), he throws major temper tantrums and is very self-punishing when he loses a battle and it's heavily implied that his dad beaten him up with golf sticks.

They forgot to give him a character arc. They had all this setup but it gets semi resolved with like 3 exchanged lines with Kahuna Laguna.
There was potential there, which sucks. This guy that no matter how hard he tried just couldn't do anything better than bronze, so he just pretended never to really try/become a delinquent. Could be relatable to a lot of people if they had spent a little more time with him.
