We already have 802 pokémon. They'd have to release three generations with less than 66 pokémon in a row if they want to reach gen 11 with less than 1000 pokés. There's no way that's happening unless every game gets a shit ton of regional forms and megas from now on.

I think gen 8 is going to have 70-80 pokémon, and gen 9 will have a bit more than 100, making 999 pokémon in total. That way gen 10 can start with the 1000th mon.
