How do you rate SM out of 10, in all honesty?

At this point I'd probably say 6/10. This series is just slightly below average, but it isn't terrible. Some eps are fun and I like most of the main cast besides Sophocles I guess.

7/10 I would say, it's very filler-heavy thus far but the fillers are fucking fun and actually make sense unlike some of the fillers of Johto and AG. You friends can complain about "le memefaces XD!" all you want but it's great shitposting material as well.

I think SM is more fondly viewed now because XY has been over for more than 6 months and now people aren't bothered/shocked by all the changes anymore. I kind of predicted this might happen for some reason, it's the same way people moved on from DP after awhile.

Problem is the TR plots were abandoned or mishandled in BW. Besides that we had shitty rivals for Ash, and Ash caught too many pokemon in Unova so most of them barely got any screentime or development.

One thing SM is going right is giving Ash a small team of pokemon.

He does exactly what every other character in the anime does. but yet he's the only one that gets the blame for doing comedic stuff. But it's natural for owls to sleep in the day time. But then no one seems to be looking at why litten is asleep all the time. They just look at it and move on. What exactly is littens or rockruffs reason for sleeping in episodes that don't concern them. Literally nothing. But yet poor little Rowlet gets called the joke, or the gag. So much so that people even think that he's the new oshawott or chespin of alola. Which is not true. Because everyone knows, to be a official comedy relief pokemon, you must first, and I quote this. Be able to get out of your pokeball on your own will. Which rowlet never did. Oshawott, piplup, chepin, psyduck. All are able to get out of their ball on there own free will. And have a certain snobby and selfconfadace that gets beaten out of them after they attempt to act strong. It's quite a classic gag. But rowlet doesn't do that. In fact there was only one episode to blame for this. And that is episode 18. In that episode rowlet acted a tad too to comedic. And thanks to that little gag with steenee and scent. People cough cough (barafag) took it as chance to make a fun of rowlet and compare him to oshawott and them. And people actually bought that meme. Now people are worried that rowlet may not evolve. All because of episode 18 and I guess episode 16 too makeing rowlet a tad bit too comedic. But what exactly where you expecting from a >comedy relief anime.
I guess the term slice of life might have disappeared from a lot of people's heads.

I had the dumbest realization the other day about Solgaleo and Lunalaa.

I don't think we're going to get a movie focusing on either of them,unless the 3rd movie focuses solely on it.

But I realized that Solgaleo and Lunalaa don't exist in SM until Nebby evolves, so if the anime follows that plot point we won't be seeing either Solgaleo or Lunalaa until towards the end of SM during the climax of the series. Odds are the UB's and whatever Eventmons that are introduced for USM are going to be the movie mons of the remaining SM movies since Nebby, Solgaleo, and Lunalaa are probably being reserved for the TV anime.

And, one more realization is the fact that we're about to be on Akala Island. We could be on the brink of Pikachu relearning Volt Tackle if they give it Catostrapika.

So, out of curiosity I just went back to see when the last time Pikachu used Electroball was since I couldn't remember the last time it was used.

The last time it was used was in episode 10 against Hala if I'm correct. I think Sparking Gigavolt is a spiritual replacement for Electroball, since Sparking Gigavolt is just a gigantic Electroball. What if they're phasing Electroball out so that when it comes time for Pikachu to learn a new move it won't be out of the blue since it's only really been using 3 moves (5 if you count Z-Moves) to fight in battle?

I don't think it was better in any way. It was definitely more fun but it was very poorly animated which I hope the new OP does better but I'm not banking on it.

One good thing about SM is they're going through the new pokemon debuts quickly, this last episode had both mushroom pokemon in it, it's evolution appeared too.

If you don't count Ultra Beasts, Legendaries, or the Totem guardians....most of the new SM pokemon have been in episodes already. I wonder why they're rushing through the list unless this saga will be shorter than expected.

Dawn did go on her own journey but found ash's pikachu and tried to get it back to ash. She would have traveled on her own just fine atleast she had a goal to go on a journey. Serena didn't have any goal she just saw ash on TV and was like "i want his dick" and that went on the entire xy xyz anime until in the last episodes of xyz she realised what she truely wants to do. Clemont like why would he go on a travel with some random guy he met like he is a gymleader they didn't know each other but he was like fuck it i abandon my gym for some random kid. Mallow = cute, energetic fanservice girl

Not everything needs to become an SoL but if it's enjoyable, there's no harm in it. SM also feels pretty refreshing considering this is the first genre shift the anime's had in quite some time, and it fits given the context of Ash being in Alola.
Mind you, I'd enjoy XY Ash in Alola and having a battle focused series all the same, but I do think Sun and Moon has a lot of charm. If nothing else, it's at least made me come around, not right away, but gradually it's become something I look forward to every Thursday.

More or less, it's the emphasis on more day to day stuff, gags and character interaction than travelling around a region battling and collecting badges/Z-crystals that makes Sun and Moon, or at least this current arc come off as a Slice of Life. Sun and Moon has a lot more routine than previous series. Where Ash would be battling, travelling, etc in any other series, he's instead going to school, having fun little camp outs away from home with friends or visiting said friends at their homes for fun activities and interactions.
Where previous series were an adventure or battle series, this one has much stronger SoL elements.

Team Rocket is so good. I always look forward to their appearance in the episode.
