This, so much. I'm tired of looking up variations and flooded with fusions instead. Pic related is exactly what I'm looking for. Variations based on real-life sub-species, not just "u-uh I want a Zoroark-Ninetales".

Doing fusions and calling them variants is just a clear tell that you are a lazy bitch who can't even muster looking up the real-life inspiration of the Pokémon on Google and find other species in the same evolutionary tree to make variations of. A lazy bitch who cannot make a design of their and has to resort to just mashing two already-existing designs together.

Ninetales has the best potential for variantions. It's no wonder Alolan Ninetales become the most popular of all the Alolan variants. I hope they double up sometime and gives us a Ghost/Fire or Ghost/Fairy Ninetales based on a dark silver fox as in that pic.

Honestly, I feel the same about regular variants than "fusion variants". I know it's based on real life animals and I can sort of agree that's far more creative than fusing two Pokemon together, but to me, stuff like the Ninetales picture you attached look more like recolors. And to me, recolors are really, really uncreative.

What annoys me is that people who do these fusions just jumped the variation-bandwagon instead of making their own term for it. I would be fine if I could separate variations and fusions when searching, but I can't. And that the fusions-shitters fault.
