Because Charizard and Venusaur were the cover mascots, I always thought it meant Blastoise was weak as shit. I kept thinking Charizard was the "strongest ever" mostly because of the anime. Even though he obviously wasn't. Well..right up until that scene in the 3rd film where Entei crushes Charizard's neck and preps a Hyper Beam to kill him. That's when I realized Charizard was weak as shit and wasn't even a "real" dragon.

I rather vividly remember the very first time playing blue version 18 years ago. I was 9. I can close my eyes and feel like I am there again, it's crazy how my most vivid memories of that time period are almost all videogame related and especially pokemon. I remember laying out on my stomach on the floor by my bed in our shitty apartment. I can remember clearly how for the first several hours at the least and possibly much longer, I believed that simply fainting a wild pokemon was how it was added to your team. I had no idea what pokeballs were at the time or how the capturing mechanic worked. I figured that fainting a pokemon just caused some small, random chance of it joining you afterwards.

Understandable. in gen 1 most grass types were part poison, and most rock types were part ground

It was pretty rare and it was paired up with miltank so thats also reasonable
>Chikorita could learn fly

I thought camerupt evolved into torkoal. Because a fire pokemon with a single hole on its back evolved into a fire pokemon with 2 holes in its back, which would then evolve into a fire pokemon with what 6, 7, hole? Idk point is lots. And I wouldn't have thought this if torkoal didn't immediately follow camerupt in the pokedex
>>
>>32714091
Same thing happened with Zoroark, but I thought it was a legendary all the way until Gen 6 since they were only available from events before then.
>>
>>32714041
AG was weird because DP got delayed. As a result you got a bunch of Sinnoh pokemon years before gen 4 started. Muchlax was in the anime as early as 2004
>>
Remember when the only way to get Jirachi was through some promotional thing through Pokemon Colosseum or something? Well, my friend had the game, and I didn't have a GameCube at the time so I asked if he would do it for me. He said he could, but said he also had the power to change all the Jirachis he gave out into Lv. 1 Wurmples and Zigzagoons. Why I believed him on this, I don't know. As a child I constantly made the dipshit mistake that starter pokemon were different and to be treated differently because they were labled as starters.
Same goes for legendaries. But they're all just simply pokemon.
>>

>>
>>32710325

>>
>>32710325
I thought fire was super effective to poison
The starters had third evolutions. I can't remember Venusaur's evolution but the other two were Charcoal and Rainer.
Mewtwo can de-evolve your pokemon.
>>
>>32714321
what's funny to me is that Rock actually has more resistances than ground does. Ground only resists poison and rock and is immune to electric. Rock resists normal, flying, poison and fire.
>>
there were baby legendaries like the Lugia in the anime

Slugma and Marill fall into a bizarre phenomenon refer to as "Gen 2.5", where certain Pokemon make a more active appearance in Gen 3 than they do in Gen 2. Thus, because it is entirely possible that the player might've missed finding it or just forgot about it altogether, they are left to assume it belongs to whatever Gen it was found in. Other examples I've noted are Skarmory, Girafarig, and surprisingly Xatu.

All of the Generation III games made the Johto starters virtually impossible to get. The only Generation III game you can get them in is Emerald, and that's only after you get ALL Silver Symbols in Hoenn's Battle Frontier, which to this day, is still the most difficult BF to complete. Me being a dumb kid, could only get the Symbols from the easy Facilities like the Pike, Dome, Arena, and Pyramid - mind you i DIDN'T EVEN KNOW you got the starters from the Battle Frontier, so that would've been a pleasant surprise had I not given up.
Anyways, I really wanted the Johto starters - ESPECIALLY after seeing how trainers on Seven Island's Trainer Tower had Level 100 Feraligatrs and shit - so for some reason I convinced myself that because the Sevii Islands are basically Johto 2.0 in FireRed/LeafGreen that I could find wild Chikorita in Pattern Bush if I looked long enough. In addition, I thought Cyndaquil was somewhere on One Island/Mt. Ember, and Totodile was somewhere in Six Island's Water Labyrinth. Needless to say I spent DAYS in Pattern Bush and I never found a Chikorita....

When I tried to find it again I couldn't find the guide I found it on. Then my friend said the same thing out of the blue like a week later and I was convinced the code was out there somewhere.

The White rock in mosdeep city allowed you to fight Jirachi
100% success in the mosdeep space center would allow you to go into space and fight deoxys
Diamond was a good game
Beating the battle frontier in emerald would allow you to fight your rival again with a team of lvl100 pokemon
Beating the elite 4 in diamond 1000 times would change the champion for mewtwo
>>
When they first announced the changes in special vs physical attack mechanics in gen 4, I for some reason thought I saw on serebii that physical moves of ANY type wouldn't affect ghost type Pokemon rather than normal type moves not affecting them. Pretty sure I went through the whole game with this mind set, and I was a teenager. To this day I still think it makes sense in theory.
>>
When I first played Silver, I couldn't leave the house because I didn't realize you had to press down rather than just step on the carpet.

For the first two days I just flat out always restarted my game because I didn't know you could save.

I thought Lugia was in Gold because I religiously avoided caves as much as I could but at some point went up the Tin Tower and found Ho-Oh.

Politoed was basically a cryptid to me.

With Sapphire, I was completely convinced that Sableye had an evolution.

Some kind of ticket will let you access Johto and Kanto, though fuck if I can remember how you were supposed to get it. I think it was supposed to be found on Mirage Island.

Also some crap about beating the league exactly 999 times and Oak would come and summon Jirachi.
>>
Also some shit about Moomoo milk being key to go past lvl100.
>>

Psychic is super efective against ghost.
I totally blame the anime for that.
>>
I thought Kabuto was an electric psychic type without an evolution
I'm pretty dumb

hold B when it's being thrown, mash A when it hits.

BUT if you in the safari zone, it's the opposite obviously

I still believe that mashing a, pressing A + Down when the ball closes, pressing A/B then right left in with the ball will highly increase your chances to catch the mon.

I don´t know why, but I threw in XY and Oras like that and nearly almost catched everything on the first try.
>>
>>32736504
same. i don't get it either, they could just say "Bill's PC" and player would just be "who's that?" anyway
>>
Holy shit. I first started in DP, and the insanity was way too much.

>Thought the entire lake trio was Water types since they were on a lake, one-shotted Uxie and Azelf with Flame Wheel since my Infernape was the only one in my party that got any training
>culminated with me catching Mesprit in a Net Ball

>took me two weeks to defeat the E4 because I didn't understand the concept of saving before battles, also because Infernape was the only thing that got trained at all

>I had to buy the strategy guide for Diamond because I missed getting Strength in lost tower and couldn't move through Mt. Coronet

>I thought Arceus would randomly appear somewhere every 100 hours and that I could find it by literally doing nothing at all
>I also bought an Action Replay because I saw a video of some guy using the Walk through Walls Cheat to catch Arceus in the elevated tall grass in Pal Park, and was convinced it was there (link related https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2W-LV-5DMc)
>thought catching a bunch of Wooper and naming them "POOPER" was the apex of comedy

I'm 26. I just took a decade long break after RSE and my memory on evolutions was hazy when I got ORAS.

That Scyther would learn fly on its own if I leveled it up.

>Trained it to level 67 by the time I had figured out that fly was an HM that I got after defeating Cianwood Gym.
>>
>>32730312
And then A-Raichu happened and the zapmouse learned to fly in a completely different way

>>32710325
I thought to complete the pokedex in red/blue you needed to actually have all the pokemon. So when one pokemon evolved I would go back and get the prior evolution for my dex.

Ha, I might be one of the first people in the world with a completed living dex. I hear that term often but didn't know what it meant until now.

I thought that flying was weak to water.

>saw Lucario in some anime opening
>no one knew who it was
>I made up some bullshit that if you beat the Elite 4 100 times he would replace Steven and you would be able to catch him

For some reason, I didn't know Illumise existed, so I thought it was a shiny Volbeat for a split second when I first encountered it.

I started playing in May 2016, first game was Y I used to think Hidden Power unlocked your Hidden Ability.

In your defense, this was true in gen 1, because the gastly line is ghost/poison
>>
>>32737023

I thought the anime made it out that Ash's only hope against the Psychic-using Gym Leader Sabrina was to find a Ghost?

I've heard this exact same story on a speedgamers marathon and talked about in a slowflake video. Are you that guy?

>Diamond was a good game
I believed this one too. I wanted it to be good for so long, I even capped the playtime. Looking back, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I thought I did.

Well, this is true since Platinum

This is because Gligar is actually more common (20% vs 5%) and in Crystal, which has both, Skarmory doesn't appear during night at all.

Things change but I still regret deleting that save file with my first starter
