They've been pulling this shit since Gen 1, not sure why you're suddenly tired of it now.

Some of the best games in the series are the "third" versions, but they usually sell dramatically worse than the regular versions. Putting out a "third" version in a pair like this is the best of both worlds. People just seem to buy more when they're able to make a choice.

Then again I'm not poor and I liked SM so maybe my opinion is just different.
