the couple people I know who play have similar ideas, we're thinking that these will be the typical "third game" adventure, albeit in a paired-version format. Then about halfway through the game, they'll blow the door open with the reveal that since each game is its own universe, the events of SM still happened and this is, in some weird way, also a sequel.

We've already seen many changes to the area that could indicate the game taking place after the previous games. As the house is completely different. The pokemon center is bigger. The flowers have grown, etc.

They got it right with Black 2/White 2. I'm not motivated to play the same thing over again for some minor differences that on the whole aren't big enough to justify a new game. However, they changed enough in B2W2 to justify it. New areas, changed areas, new characters, returning characters who are now different, a new asinine plot to deal with. But in the same region. This is enough to warrant me to buy another game where we return to a region.

The quick glimpse of USM and the phrase "alternate story" indicates they're going the way of Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum. I pray it's drastically different. That's justifiable. It needs to be vastly different.

If not, it's just another day at the office for Game Freak. Half a step forward, three steps back.
